Hi, I'm fairly new here. I was poking around the net for solutions to helping me understand my rabbit better and I stumbled across this site.

Today my rabbit is behaving rather strangely, she won't really eat the rabbit pellets or carrots that we fed her. Which is rather strange because normally she would eat them after an hour or two. And when I approached her, she seemed to not respond. Usually she would jump up and greet me. But for today she just stood blankly into space, she's been doing this for the whole day.

Any advice? I'm kinda worried for her :(

I.m glad you found us. Is she eating hay all right? If not, I'd take her to the vet's asap.

Once she's better, I'd slowly remove carrots from her diet, They have too much sugar. Leafy greens but not iceberg lettuce, are the best food, once hay & pellets are in the mix.

Thank you for the reply. we never fed her with hay before, just some corn, rabbit pellets, carrots and occasionally leafy greens (No iceberg lettuce of course). So I'll remove the carrots, but what about the corn? Is it ok for her to eat that?

It sounds your rabbit is experiencing GI stasis. It can be very serious. If she has an extremely bloated stomach- vet now, loud gurgling coming from her stomach, or it has been more than 12 hours since she ate, you will want to get her into the vet asap. They can give her metacam for the pain, and gut motility meds to get her digestion moving. If you have simethicone(infant gas drops) then you can try giving her some at 1cc each hour for 3 hours, then every 3-8 hours as needed, to try and get the gas pain under control. If you have metacam for her on hand, you can also give her some of that. If you can get the pain under control then she may start eating again on her own. Avoid all sugary and starchy foods, you can try feeding her a non cruciferous leafy greens, like green leaf lettuce, cilantro, or parsley, to see if she will eat it.

If her condition changes and worsens get her to the vet.
