So now that i have 4 bunns i need a feed that'll go further. The small bags from petsmart don't last. I remember buying a feed at tractor supply when my lionhead was a baby bit was alfalfa based. It seems the large bags of feed are based with alfalfa. Something more cost effective but healthy. Any suggestions? All my bunns are over 6 months. Thanks:happybunny:

Would an alfalfa based pellet be ok for an adult? I read before that its not that good to feed after 6 months unless its a nursing doe.

Adult house rabbits require lower protein and higher fiber than juveniles. Usually that means a timothy based pellet.

Are you willing to order online? You can find the larger bags of Kaytee Timothy Complete online or you can get as large as a 50 lb bag of Oxbow's Essentials Adult.

At wag.com you get free shipping for $49+ orders, & you can reach that through their other sites, which have cleaning supplies, food, kids' toys, etc.

Are there any independent pet stores near you that carry decent rabbit supplies? I can get a 10 pound bag of Oxbow for about $15 at a local store, while Petsmart has the 5 pound for the same price and the 10 pound at around $20. You might be able to get a better price at an independent store.

Going online can be an option as well. Many places offer free shipping if you spend a certain amount. You could buy more supplies or even a couple bags of food to get that free shipping.

Unfortunately, having more rabbits does mean that feed costs go up. I have 7 rabbits that all get Oxbow and a 10 pound of the timothy pellets lasts about 3 weeks. I also give Oxbow alfalfa and that lasts a bit longer. It does help to find the food at a good price though.

I second this ^^. I've been buying from wag since August and never had a problem. It gets here really fast too, like two days. It's also cheaper than the pet stores.

Also, if you're a first time customer, you get a percentage off. It should be on the site, but if not search for a coupon code. Something like 10-20%, mine was 15%.

We did pass a store thats 40 minutes from me and i picked up a 10 lb bag for 10.00. We go there when we're out that way. With gas costs its it doesn't pay to just go. I know more bunnies equals more food and thats ok. Trying to find a better deal that'll go a little further. I'll check out wag.com. Thanks

Do you not have a tractor supply near you? You could get purina the green bag which is the complete, its not the show formula-thats the blue bag. They come in 50# bags. http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/sto...te-natural-advantedgetrade;-rabbit-food-50-lb

You could get manna pro PRO in a 25# or 50# bag. http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/sto...ct-seriestrade;-pro-formula-rabbit-food-25-lb

I know a lot of breeders use those but they seem to work. They are alfalfa based, but a lot of people feed these pellets and alfalfa based pellets. I think a lot of the pellets are alfalfa based, as long as your feeding grass hay too its not like they're getting a ton of alfalfa. You limit pellets anyway right? So they get more fresh stuff and hay?
I personally am switching from Sherwood Forest to the walmart brand rabbit food, surprisingly its not that bad! But once my bun reaches full size I'll limit her pellets and give her mostly greens and hay, so the pellets for me aren't really a huge issue. Plus the walmart pellets are cheap! hahah. Good luck finding the right thing!

I bought the purina complete in the green bag when my lionhead was a baby. So yes theres a tractor supply here. Yes i measure out pellets each day. Unlimited hay and fresh greens daily. 2 of my lops have sensitive bellies so i'm leary of alfalfa. I try to prevent vet trips for these 2 guys. Maybe i can try a small bag of alfalfa based pellets for a few days and see how they do. My lionhead and french lop do fine with whatever.

Had a coupon for the discount pet store about 30 mins from me. Woohoo 30% off plus with a loyalty card i got 2.00 off. 25 lb bag for 13.47. Plus some other goodies they like. :bunny19
