Hi, i just get my bunny yesterday. I got her a large cage and use a regular bedding( carefresh natural). It was good for my guinea pig but as i started reading your post I noticed barely anyone use bedding like me. I would love you guys to tell me what's in your cages and what do u use as a bedding. I dont have a litter box in a cage and outside yet. She just started to coming out all by herself and back to cage.
Thank you

I use fresh news bedding, and love it! It absorbs really well, and my bunnies approve it ;) I have an NIC cage, so I just use bedding in the litterbox, and the floor of the cage is tile.

Thank you so much, i did everything wrong bc i put only bedding. I will go and buy a small litter box and put fresh bedding to it and you a blanket on the rest. Rabbits are different thank Guinea pigs which i had before.

Yeah, one of the reasons I have tile is because often, rabbits won't pee on the tiles because it gets on their feet, so they'll be more likely to use a litterbox with bedding.
I love the bunny in your profile pic btw! ;)

Yup, ditto what Christina said you will want to only have a litterbox and no bedding in the cage as then Lola will think she can go anywhere. You want to start litterbox training now :)

My two are free run during the day and are only locked up in their cage at night and they use their litterbox throughout the day. Rabbits are very intelligent!

Remember to never use cat litter as clay clumping type litters are dangerous to buns if ingested. Bedding type litters are messy, especially with lionheads as it sticks to their fur and gets all over. I use wood stove pellets which are sold at most hardware or home improvement stores. I can get a 40 lb bag for $5. They control odor very well!

Thank you. I bought the biggest bag of bedding so I guess when I will be done with it I will buy the one you suggest. Do you leave another litter box outside of cage so they can use it while they playing outside or they use only the one u have in a cage?

I use a litter box inside and outside the cage until they get used to it. After that its up to you whether you keep the out of cage box as they'll usually go back in their cage to use it. Another tip is to put their hay in the litter box as they often eat and poop at the same time. :)

I fix my cage so hopefully she will like it.

I just leave the door open to their cage and they come and go as they please. However, as she is training, I would put other litterboxes outside of the cage to help her better understand the litterbox concept. Once she gets it, you can take them away if you want. I think at one time (when I was bonding my two and had just adopted Archie), I had 5 litterboxes total scattered about the room! Lol.

And as far as litter, you don't *have* to switch to that it's just personal preference. If you do a search there are lots of threads on litter choices. If you do decide to switch, buy the new stuff before the old stuff is gone as you'll want to mix the two gradually as some buns lose litter habits if a sudden change in litter is made.

I will have to change the bedding bc vacuuming twice a day it's not funny:) I still won't complain bc Lola at least don't poop almost anywhere besides her litter an a little bit in her bed. I use to have a guine pig which we call a poop factory:)
