hi everyone,

you may remember my bonding questions about Grendel and Shin Shin. they are doing really well! yay! so well that Grendel started working hard on building a nest this morning. she was spayed in February, and Shin Shin was neutered in late April, so unless there is immaculate conception, there's no way Gren is pregnant. this morning she started gathering large bunches of straw and grass in her mouth and depositing it under a shrub that she likes to nap under. i haven't seen any fur plucking from her fortunately.

has anyone else seen this happen? is it a medical problem or just bunny love?

Shin Shin, by the way, is happily hopping about and nibbling, and has no interest in Gren's project.

thank you for any guidance you can provide!

When spaying a female you remove all the sexual organs so this removes all hormonal based behaviours.
However if even a small bit is left inside, this can lead to some behaviour. But maybe shes just making herself comfy, bunnys can do wierd things. Whatever it is, it's coming from her brain unless pieces were left behind.

Bonny used to run around with a bunch of shredded newspaper in her mouth--looked like a giant bowtie. She was stuffing it in a box and building a nest. She also used to figure 8 around my feet and would attack Nancy if I was in the room. This was all more than a year later and the ultra sound showed a clean slate. Just one of those bunny things I guess.
