Do bunnies need a friend?

I think that they do need a friend or two. I used to breed rabbits and some of my girls would get very mopey and depressed after I moved their babies out of their cage. A few years ago I had a trio of un-neutered boys that had a very close bond. They were together for about a year. I had to separate them during an emergency and they were never able to live together after that. They were still really sweet with each other, but I couldn't leave them with out supervision.

So how would one go about adopting a new bunny, and making sure they would be friends? Best with m/f or does that matter?

they dont actually have to be in the same cage. my rabbit are happy with just having a rabbit in a different cage next to them. look in the rescue me section for a bunny in need of a good home

Carole I bought storm for domino and you can see a major difference in the way domino acts. Super bouncy and excited instead of just laying around being mopey.

Thanks again. I am going to lookout for one. We have to get past this Thursday, his neuter, healing, etc. I still have his old cage, so that would be a good place to start out a new friend maybe? No way I can put another huge cage in this room, so eventually I would like them to be together. I hope I make the right choice.

Please do let me know how it goes with getting a new bunny for your existing one..I want to do the same. I have my 3 month old Pancake and thinking of getting an eight week old. Pancake is a female and the new one is female also..Pancake is Very bonded to me..hoping that wont be a problem..

Since domino was only 9 weeks and storm was 8 1/2 weeks it was super easy to get them to like each other. From what I have read bonding same sex babies is the easiest bonding experience, but its the maturity age that can change. Carole with elliot being fixed you should have no problem introducing a female to him. I'd be afraid about another male as I read those pairs can be rough, but then again he is fixed. I see a netherland buck in on craigslist and I so want him lol

scissors, I'd read up on same sex bonding since your female is already 3 months old, but from everything I read it can be done.

Let me know if you decide to get one! They are so small, sweet, and adorable with the baby look. Thanks for the reply.

When I had Bailey he was my only rabbit for a few reasons, but he and I had a ton of one on one time.

When I brought Atticus home I knew that I wanted to try two rabbits. So then along came Gubble. Anddd then Molly. Annnd then Matthias.

:p

So adorable nancee! Its never to late from what I have research and read on these forums. You're probably better off keeping them separate until pancakes gets fixed. It could definitely be easier then.

Samara lol if I could have two more right now I probably would.

well, Pancake is 3 months old..could she REALLY Be HORMONAL at this age?..So hoping I can bond her but after that God Awful Lunging Act onto Patootie..It really scared me..

My girl Sully started to get hormonal at 3 months two weeks. It was like someone flipped a switch, on day she was real mellow and the next day she was real territorial and destructive (practise nesting.)

Then she was spayed and she calmed right back down. : )

seems like the light switch went off here too at just over 3 months..wow..I am glad humans dont get THIS BAD Hormonaly..I sure hope the fixing issue helps..How long does it take to recover for a female spaying?..Cage rest for ten days? Pancakes big day is this MONDAY..! Nancee
