Hello everyone! Ann/seniorcats here. I chatted with Patti/slavetoabunny via e-mail earlier this evening and asked if I could place a call for help on RO.

First I should say that our last house rabbit died this past Saturday of congestive heart failure. Ali was over the age of 10 and had been treated for almost 3 years. He went rapidly downhill before the weekend and had to go to the ER where there wasn't anything they could do.

We decided on no more bunnies and to concentrate on our rescued cats.

Now the cat rescue story: A friend near Toronto, Canada (not Ohio) took in a feral mama 6 weeks ago. They are keeping or placing all the kittens but cannot keep the mama. Chris and her DH have a number of other special needs rescues.
Apparently the local shelter will take the cat but once she is assessed as feral or semi-feral, she would be euthanized.

I can take the cat. I live in northeast Ohio. Other friends have offered to help pay for travel expenses. Another long time cat rescue friend will be driving with me. The problem is neither of us has a current passport so we can't cross the border into Canada.

Chris does not drive. Her DH drives her. He will be out of the country on business until July 2nd. It isn't ideal for all of us to wait until July. If we have to wait, then so be it.

I thought I would ask here if there is anyone who may be able and willing to help in transporting the cat from a southern suburb of Toronto to a meeting point over the border in NY. Or if there is someone on the NY side with a passport who can drive to south of Toronto pick up the cat and bring her back to NY. She will be crated the entire time so need to worry about handling a feral.

The cat is getting all the needed vaccines, health certificates this Saturday.
If someone can help, we would probably be able to reimburse for gas and at least pay for a meal. Please e-mail me at [email protected]

A funny coincidence, one of the California women who has offered to help fund the trip has a daughter in Boston who fostered and then adopted 2 rabbits from BC Rabbit Rescue. Bunnies moved with her from BC to Boston when she finished school. It's funny how 'bunny connections' come up when you least expect them.

A special hello to Mike B, Peg in Texas, Pipp and Northern Autumn!

Thanks for reading and considering,
Ann

Thanks Alicia.

An update: We have been able to make excellent arrangements on both sides of the border. My friend and I will meet up with the Canadian family in NY on Friday. I am so relieved.

We've been offered more than $450 in travel expenses which do not need. We have suggested the money be donated to cat and rescue instead.
A Hoppy Day for all of us.

So glad to hear this worked out! I might have been able to help, but I won't be back in NY until August myself.
