As all MR breeders know, there are color crossing rules. Well, we raise reds and you only breed red to red unless you outcross to another color to improve type or fur.

My little sister secretly bred our main Red doe to our Broken Black Otter buck. I found this out when she gave birth and I found brokens in the litter. Mickey is the only broken we have in our herd. I just said oh well, we got a couple months to get a red litter out of her. The kits all looked otter with a red tinge to me, I just wrote them off as pets for unshowable color. I was looking at them yesterday day......I yell Oh My Gosh is this what I think it is. They look castor and broken castor. Of all the colors to pop up out of this his fiasco it's a color that we could actaully use in our broken Red program. the bands and hair shaft look correct as well. That black color neverjogged my memory, andCastor nevercrossed my mind.I'm too happy right now. This gives me a reason to keep Mickey around as well. this just works out to well. We specialize in red and we've changed our minor to castor and tort. I can bring in a couple blacks to got with our torts and Mickey as well.

Look at that chunky monkey on the left :D

A very predictable color for the pairing. The otter doesn't carry red or tort so they would have to be black agoutis especially if the red only carries agouti. Don't forget that the kits will likely carry otter. I would also check the belly undercolor when they get older. Sometimes castors out of reds will be missing the undercolor.
