Can anyone tell me about ear mites? My bunny has been scratching his ear a lot, but it seems to be only his right ear. I could be wrong on that, though. Anyway, are they visible? I don't see anything on his ear, but I couldn't really get a good look inside. He is due for a checkup at the vet, and if they have an opening this week, I'm taking him, but he might not be able to get there until next week, so now I'm curious. Thanks for any information!

Are there any white spots inside the ear the part that you can see? Prince had these and it turned out to be ear mites. I would get your bunny in to see the vet if he is scratching his ears, any one of his ears a lot. It could indicate ear mites. The vet can check for them and give ivermectin every two weeks as needed to clear them up.

I couldn't see anything inside his ear, it looked ok to me. But, they had an appointment for today, so we will see. Thanks for your replies!

I have had a couple incidences where my bunnies (all indoors) have picked up mites. I could not see anything visible (neither could the vet under the microscope) but in one case the buns were itching a lot and another they were losing some hair in patches. Both times we treated with revolution for mites and things cleared up very quickly.
Sometimes mites can come in on hay or food that has been in storage.
It might be worth treating for, just in case.
Best wishes!
Haley

He went to the vet yesterday, and thankfully does not have mites! I guess he was not scratching as much as I thought he was. Thank you all so much for your responses, I really appreciate the help!

Next time they should look inside his ear clear down to the eardrum. Prince had ear mites and they were really far down in the ear. Just keep an eye on your bunny.

She looked with a scope because he's so furry, she could hardly see insidehis ear. Hopefully she looked all the way down. I will definitely keep watching him, though, thanks!

Edited to fix spelling :)
