Starting a new topic to continue on from my prior blog: http://www.rabbitsonline.net/view_topic.php?id=554&forum_id=6&page=1

I started that topic so many years ago before this forum even had different sections. I PM'd a mod to see if maybe they could change the title to something more bloggy and less "Hi I am new here..." lol, but I haven't yet received a response.

So I will be posting new photos here instead.

:)

[align=center]Oh my goodness! Theodore is SOOO cute!

Can't wait to see more! 8D

I had just been reading your other blog-thingy =).. ironic!

Thanks Yield!

I just got back from taking Theodore to the vet. I have been noticing his tail has been wet a little too often and we have been speculating why in this topic. I decided that I should take him since he hasn't had a wellness exam since I brought him in to get neutered many years ago.

The vet was able to get some urine to check, but she suspects just from looking at it that it is calcium-heavy. I also have some ointment to put on him daily to help with the irritation he has on his skin around there. Poor bunny :(

So he is grumpy right now, since he has been taken from his warm spot, put into a carrier, taken for a cold car ride, then man-handled quite rudely. But I have faith in the fleeting memory capacity of a bunny brain and by the time his rolled-oat breakfast comes around, he will be licking my nose once again.

The good news is if it is in fact calcium, it is easily corrected and he should stop leaking pee-pee spots on my carpet (which I had assumed for all this time was just bad potty training).

I will have the results on Monday. :bunnydance:

[align=center]You're welcome! =) And oh no! I hope he gets better about that =)

Aww! My boy Sabriel, he broke his leg, and he had to be manhandled and held down every monday to get his bandage changed. The things our buns have to go through at the vet! But he got over it with some oats as well ;D

=) Good luck!

Ha! He finally came out from the corner and sat in his spot again. I knelt down next to him and nuzzled his nose, and it was so funny how he gave me one single lick on my nose as if to appease me.

"I am mad at you. I am not going to kiss you. If I give you a kiss will you go away?" *reluctant lick* "There. Happy now? Good. Go away."

lol

Hope your bun is feeling better soon! Milo gets over manhandling and stress with the offer of Craisins.

Thanks! Theodore is a sucker for a peanut. If I make a sound like a peanut cracking open, he will be climbing up my leg in 3 seconds.

[align=center]Lol! He sounds like a character =)

I don't think bunnies are supposed to have peanuts- but from what you say about him, it doesn't seem like it's having any ill effects on him XD

Actually- I just read that peanuts can cause bladder sludge but I don't know for sure =O

Craisens/sunflower seeds/oats are what I give to my buns as treats =D You crinkle the bags and Sabriel FLIPS out! XD

Peanuts are pretty high calorie, so they should be extremely limited. I save them for when I need to bribe him - usually when I have to call him back to his pen.

But yes, in my experience, peanuts will make even the shyest of rabbits jump on my lap.

Oh dear. Really? Why have I missed that bit of info all this time? Perhaps that is just the thing that is causing his leaking...

I guess I am stopping the peanuts. I might keep the shells around to crackle for the sound though. :lookaround

[align=center]Yeah :shock:

I dunno

Could be.. you should really try craisens.

Seriously- my rabbits go NUTS for them. Even my skittish bun- Solara (that's just her personality cause I handle her lots lol) takes them from my hand and comes to me when I have them! XD The bag crinkles too sooo =) They always know!

I avoid dried fruit because of the sugar content. I just asked the vet today if a dried blueberry would be okay and she advised against it. :( It is always something...

He is very well conditioned to come when I call him because I always give him some sort of treat. I am sure if I changed what I give him it wouldn't hurt - as long as I give him SOMETHING lol.

I think I will put a planter near his pen and grow some bunny herbs again this year. He had a cilantro planter last year.

Feed him raw pumpkin seeds. It helps to flush excess calcium out of their systems through the urine, which turns the urine white. And, bunnies LOVE pumpkin seeds. All my rabbits get between a teaspoon to tablespoon per day. Only reason to limit the amount is for weight control. Too many will make a bun pudgy. You can get raw pumpkin seeds at some grocery stores and most health food stores. They're also called pepitas.

Thank you Myia and Lisa! It was love at first sight with that little pug nose and those stubby little ears :)

Thank you for this advice. I am adding pumpkin seeds to my grocery list now. And it will be a good replacement for the peanuts.

I went to the store and did not find any :(

I looked online for ideas about where to buy them locally, and it occurred to me that I can get them with and without the shell. I presume you feed them the ones without the shell. I wonder if the shell is good or bad for them... more roughage perhaps?

Where do you buy your pumpkin seeds?
