ok so it first started out with a cricket or two..no biggie right?..wrong..now i have thousands of crickets in my house...weve sealed the outer walls up a little better ..and that has helped...thank god..but i have glue traps down cuz i have no idea what i can use to spray with my bunnies ...the glue traps get filled up quickly...well now i am starting to have an ant prob..yes i know to keep things clean u wont have ants...well i have a boyfriend and his daughter who dont understand this...i mean i cant CONSTANTLY be wiping the counter 10 times a day,,i dont have time for that ..
anyways it was just the itty bitty tiny ants at first ...well now its the little black ones that bite that have found the dogs food....I CANT LIVE WITH THESE INSECTS!! somebody needs to pleeeeease give me some advice on masecuring and destroying these things without harming my bunnies..!!!..im starting to be really uncomfrortable in my own house..i got the freakin eeby jeebies....which makes me look like a fool cuz i have pet hair in my house and if its on me i think it a bug...EEEEK....!!!!!!!!!!!!

ive called exterminators and they flippantly say that their stuff is safe for animals after 20 min. of spraying..well that sounds like a crock of poop to me....its poison.

things ive tried:
corn meal
glue traps

Lisa, i feel for you i HATE bugs of any kind.

A few years ago we had these small tiny bugs in the house (so gross). I got some stuff from an exterminator they aslo said it was ok after 20 minutes.

We did use it but kept the Bunnies in their cages for a day. It worked, it killed those darn pests.

Sorry but i'd be getting the Boyfriend and his daughter to be cleaning up or out they'd be. Sorry to sound harsh but they should be cleaning up after themselves anyways. The younger you teach the better adults they become.

Good Luck

Susan

so i can buy stuff from an extermiator and do it myself??.that sure sounds cheaper..ill hafta call around...thanks susan!!..
as for the boyfriend he doesnt cheat on me,he loves every animal that i bring into this house,, 9 bunnies,3 cats, 3 dogs,,and never complains about em...he has a great job and works hard ,,hes good to me ,,those would be the only things that i would dump a man for...:).....as for his daughter ...im working on her ...shes only here on the weekends but everything i teach her somehow is forgotten during that week away...

anybody else have any advice on this..i know other people have bug problems..come on admit it..:)

How about checking you and the buns and dogs into a cheap motel for the day/night while the exterminators bug bomb the house?

Maybe a friend's place?

I feel for ya. When we had a problem with Indian meal moth (thanks for the bag of free birdseed, Dad :p), I bug bombed the main and top floors of the house around 12 with the windows open, and huddled downstairs with the cats and buns for the rest of the afternoon. Brought a book and some treats, and it all worked out. Then went back upstairs, and bombed the basement.

If you've got fish, be sure to cover up the tanks before setting off the bug bombs. It may take a number of attempts to kill everything.

As a treat, send your bf and his daughter outside to eat for the next week... that might get the point across ;). I'm in the same living situation, (plus housemates) and boy, it's fun sometimes :D

(The naughty part of me wants to sprinkle sugar all over the floors and lets the ants swarm in...:p)

I feed crickets to my geckos and they escape and I find them..but then I just grab them and put them back in the cage :p

But I couldn't stand ants..I just got ickyness.
Are there no "animal friendly" places that have the stamp of approval? I know there is one in AZ that is all natural.

We get ants in the spring. I use Terro Ant Killer- it works great! I generally only have to put this stuff out once a year.

I'd love being overrun with crickets! It get expensive buying them to feed to all our critters LOL

AMEN to that. Just started using it after reading all the reviews of it on websites. So cheap - under $5.....

We're at the point right now where the ants are still going crazy to get to the Torro - from what I understand - by tomorrow they should be gone.

you guys are crazy playing with the crickets!!!!!!!!....eek!..if i could box them up and ship em to you ..i would..hehe..these guys are big and hairy too...kinda what scary movies are made out of....what the heck do you guys feed the crickets to besides the geckos?..i should go buy a bunch of geckos and release them in front of my house...they would have a smorgasbord.....ok so i just went out and bought the Terro today and im goin ant hunting...thanks Pam!!..is Terro gonna help me with the crickets??..it says ant killer on it but im hoping it will demolish everything out there...i talked to the neighbors today about the ants and i guess we all have the ant prob...must live on a big ol ant hill....wish me luck..!if u dont hear from me soon ..the ants and crickets have taken me hostage....

Pam , do you see alot of Thriantas when ur judging??.are they starting to become more popular?..my Flash is a Thrianta but he isnt cobby and thick like i guess their suppose to be..i still luv him..but id love to see a chunky Thrianta in person...are they as kewl as all the pics ive seen?

Try the Terro Ant killer, they carry it back to the nest and the queen dies too. I had bad ants this spring in my kitchen - I couldn't find the food they were getting into. Put out the Terro and they were gone in a week.

Eventually found the sugar I spilled behind the counter and cleaned it up.

ahhh ...the infamous spilt sugar.....thatll draw em in everytime.:)
i cant leave a crumb around ..these guys are all over it quick!!..now theyve found the dishwasher with the dirty dishes in it....yepper found them in there today...just luv it when i find zillions of em.......eebie jeebies in full effect...

SEE Nicole understands,,,,they are the creepiest little creatures....and everytime i see one its like they jump right at me...found a big sucker in my kitchen today..bounced off of my leg a couple of times..THEN it gets worse ... im sitting at my computer typing away..and one of em jumps right into my lap... EEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!....the whole day was ruined after that..i felt like something was crawling on me.....ill get them i will..

Sorry to do this but LOL... The way you write it makes it funny. Anyway, with the ants, I've had quite a bit of luck with the drops and other things that they bring back to their queen. Ants in the house really gross me out. They get everywhere and into everything. They are so small that you can barely see them at times. I'll never forget the day I sat at the table and poured myself a bowl of cereal only to see that it was moving! YUCK! :yuck I really feel for you. It sucks when all you can think of is the bugs, and keep thinking you feel one on you. Bleh...

I have no experience with crickets other than handling them and using them as feed. I agree, crickets are yucky. I don't mind handling them but they are creepy lol. They smell and they explode  Lol. Those using them as feed know what I mean, I think...

Best of luck with the buggers!

Ants hate chalk and they won't cross over it. It's really odd! If you can find where they're coming in, draw a line of chalk and they won't cross it.

t.

myloki.,,i tried the chaulk thing and where they are coming in at is a chunky stucko surface so its impossible to get the chaulk thick enough to make a barrier,,,then on the inside they are running along the top of the baseboard .when i filled that ledge up with chaulk they somehow made a path around it and now are traveling along my carpet..the bastads are smart i tell ya..i havent seen them yet today so lets hope the terro is kicking there butt....on the other hand i have seen a POOPLOAD of crickets and they are getting bigger!!!!!!!!!forget about the fly swatters they laugh at em when i whip that thing out.,..had to break out with the heavy artillery..,.my dock martin boots .man i hit one of em with that thing 4 times before it finally died...screaming the whole time....i was.
:tantrum:

There is also diatomaceous earth, which is supposed to be quite safe around pets but gets rid of unwanted insects (fleas, ants, cockroaches, etc.). It supposedly irritates the insect's outer shell and destroys it.
