How much/often do you feed veggies to your bun?

Right now they are out on the grass all day and night (in a run, with a hutch too) so they get grass and dandelion leaves and flowers there, and clover and whatever other yummy things might be there, like daisies. :)

I don't have much money for buying them loads of greens, but I've read so much how important it is, so lately I've been trying to find either salad bags that are reduced because they're going out of date (but still good enough for bunnies) or just buy very cheap round or butterhead lettuce. They also get whatever veggie peelings I have (and that can be a lot some days, when I make soup) usally carrot, sweet potato, turnip, (the guinea pigs get parsnip since my rabbits don't like it!) broccoli stalks. And if I have any veggies that are starting to go bad but are still not very bad (I don't like using them myself, but some people still would) then they get those. They have to share with the guinea pigs though. They also get a bit of apple, maybe 1/4, about once a week. And if my family have pork chops then they get all the apple peelings from the apple sauce! Or if I have any salad leaves that are starting to wilt then they get those, and that's quite a lot cos I'm vegan so have loads of veggies around all the time.

I don't measure anything, but if it seems like too much then I keep some for the next day. They usually get a bowl of veggies each (rabbit size ceramic bowl) a day, and also dandelion leaves and all that aswell. I've started to grow my own lettuce and herbs too, so hopefully soon they'll have more. The lettuce is just for the animals, but I'll use some of the herbs too. :)

I'm also trying to grow some carrot/parsnip/turnip tops and sweet potato plants.

My buns get a couple of servings of greens a week. Well Jessi and storm goes in the cage while she eats. As much as I would love to feed veggies everyday I can not afford to.

So 1 to 3 meals a week. Although for the summer they may be getting more because I have a job interview tomorrow!!!!

Jessi gets heaping salads when she does get them. They are about the size of her body on the plate. So about 3 or 4 cups.

But the past two weeks she has not got any salads and she will only get a few this month. As if I get the job I will have to buy uniforms and such.

So I do what I can.

I don't feed veggies that much. They get hay and pellets as their main diet and veggies and fruit are more of a treat, maybe a bowl each once a week. Now it is Summer though, they are getting less pellets and I go out and pick different wild plants and grass that they are allowed to have. I'm also growing about 10 different types of lettuce that will be ready to start eating in a few weeks. Probably going to grow some tomatoes too.

I haven't found an amount of veggies that is too much. Riley and Pancake eat as much grass and weeds as they want almost every day outside for an hour or so. My vet says that rabbits not used to lots of fresh greens shouldn't be given huge amounts suddenly, though.

Per bunny I feed in the morning:

1 Kale, 1 green leaf, 1 red leaf, 1 Romaine, 1 of a type I never remember >_<, 1 thing of Celery, 15 pieces of: Cilantro, & 2 types of Parsley, they get 3" of Carrot, and 10 baby Spinach leafs, 1/8th of a an apple, 1/8 of a pear.

Per Bunny in the afternoon:
1 Kale, 1 green leaf, 1 Read Leaf, 2 Roamaine, 1 mystery leaf. a handful of Spinach and about 20 Parsley parts.

Per Bunny in the evening:
1 Kale, 1 green leaf, 1 red leaf, 1 Romaine, 1 of a type I never remember >_<, 1 thing of Celery, 15 pieces of: Cilantro, & 2 types of Parsley, they get 3" of Carrot, and 10 baby Spinach leafs, and occasionally a slice or two of Banana

They also get free fed pellets, and Hay, and they occasionally get a couple of Annie's graham bunnies, and cheerios, and Craisins.

8 bunnies we usually go through 25lbs of pellets a month.

ETA:
I have 2 flemmish Giants, 2 Velveteen Lops, 1 Dutch, and 3 dwarf Mixed that are the same size as the V Lops, except Mary which is a lil dwarf girl.

They all eat til they are full then the others clean up after them lol

All my bunnies get close to the size of the salad in my avatar, although that one is Pipp's, my non-hay-eater, so she gets the biggest and most elaborate version. She's also the fussiest and she needs the variety to keep her molar spurs in check. And she's a dwarf, dwarfs have a higher metabolism so she eats more.

The other guys are mostly in pairs so they have to share their salads.

At the risk of sounding silly, how much is "one cup" of veggies? Since veggies vary in size and shape, weight and density?

I have some 9" plates and each bun gets a full plate of veggies in the morning. Two of my buns gets 2 salads a day while my girl only gets 1.

I feed romaine, green leaf, parsley and wheat grass. Sometimes they get carrot tops and kale.

By volume? Some things are easier to spot a cup of, like chopped/diced celery. But a cup of romaine is kind of difficult to say right? The chopped lettuce tends to be... puffy. Sorry, it's hard to describe. Know what I mean? :?

I don't measure my buns veggies...never have...i just give my bunnies a huge container full each night..continental parsley...cos lettuce.. baby endive and some red lettuce..which i cut up and mix like a tossed salad...ohh and i also put some cut up carrot in there as well.

My bunnies generally get 2 cups per bunny a day. We buy a big container of Earthbound Farm Organic Spring Mix (red and green romaine, red and green oak leaf, lollo rosa, tango, organic red and green chard, organic mizuna, organic arugula, organic frisée, organic radicchio). I use to purchase a head of romaine, green leaf, and parsley weekly. I found it wouldn't last as long (so they weren't getting salad daily) and was more expensive in the long run. The spring mix is so nice because there is such great variety, it comes in a convenient container, and is pre-washed/chopped. All I have to do is measure and place on the their veggie plates. I also buy and grow parsley that they have a few times a week on top of their spring mix.

mine get a couple big handfuls of spinach, sometimes 3, per day
about a dozen or so mini carrots
a piece or two of veggie du jour-bellpepper, parsley, turnips, whatever is on sale.

I have two dwarves, about five pounds and four pounds.

I believe it means a packed cup. If you take parsley or romaine and pack it into a cup measure, that's your answer. I use a salad spinner bowl as my measure though - I don't pack into a cup every day.

I've been wondering as well how much to feed my buns. They are 3 and 4 1/2 months old. I've been giving them a serving in the morning and a serving at dinner time. I believe they get anywhere from 1-2 cups a day. I give carrot tops (ration the rest of the carrot through out the week), Parsely, romaine, leafy lettuce, celantro, everyother day or so (sometimes once a week a piece of apple or other fruit on hand).... and that's it. I've tried cucumber, green pepper, and other veggies but they only like the leafy stuff so I have to get fancy with it and switch it up every 3-4 days :) Hope I'm doing well for them.
