When they're pregnant? I only use it as a derogatory term, to be honest. Usually joking, but in a slightly mean way none the less.

I think some people think it sounds 'cute' or something.

I have heard lots of pregnant women use it for themselves in a very non-derogatory way. I think it's just a slang term like any other.

i have been pregnant, and have used those words to describe myself or someone else who was pregnant, i dont think of it as being a derogatory word. I think i like the words preggers or prego better then knocked up

Yeah i always thought it was sorta cute. I've heard it used in mean spirited ways, but that was mostly just because the person speaking was passing some sort of judgment about the person being pregnant at all (usually do to age). It wasnt really about the words.

Its easy to get offended by anything that you arnt really used to, but I think most of the time this is just used as a word.

my nickname when i was pregnant was prego...never bothered me.

It was the nickname for one of my co-workers. LOL Now she is called no longer prego. :p:DThough I never used it.

Everyone I know who uses it as slang but in a nice way.

We are trying to get pregnant, or as I say to my friends, "I'm trying to get all knocked up."

Doesn't bother me in the least!

In our family, a similar phrase has always been a term of endearance...

Years ago when my oldest sister-in-law became pregnant with the first grandchild, my father-in-law affectionately dubbed her "PREGNANCE". Each of us ladies in the family has had our turn as "Pregnance" as we carried our babies, including our oldest niece who had the first great-grandchild.I have often wondered whether anyone in the family will carry on this little tradition once Pops is gone. It will seem incredibly sadwhen the first pregnancy occurs, if the mama-to-bedoesn't get called Pregnance.

I would definitely say that any phrases or nicknames have to be considered in context.

Pregnance! Now I LOVE that one! Oh I would hope that tradition carries on along with stories YEARS from now about how it started. That's special!

Never have been pregnant, never will be, but I always thought preggers & prego was rude..I don't know why, I just think it sounds rude.

But Pregnance? That sounds pretty!

Why? I guess it's one of a thousand different terms that people come up with...I personally don't care for those terms either, but hey, that's me. :)

However, I really only wanted to post here to say "Hi, TreasuredFriend!" It's been a long time...

Never been, never will be pregnant.

I don't care for any of the words to describe it, I think Preggo and Preggers just sound silly, just say the real word. It's just slang, though, some people like it, some don't. Some people use it disrespectfully, some don't.

;)Thanks, I always felt special when Pops called me that. I guess if no one else steps up to use the nickname after Pops is gone, I WILL.:D And then I will tell the young mother the stories and history of "Pregnance".
