Hi all,

I was wondering - I have have a female bunny (Kinsey) who was spayed 20 days ago and seems to be completely healed. She's been staying in my kitchen inside, and I'm really dying to put her back in her cage outside on my porch with her bonded mate, the male bunny (Grafton). They love being together.

My question is, since Grafton is not scheduled for a neuter until Jan 13, and he's very hormonal, will the constant mounting cause the female bunny stress? Or will she be okay with her mate until he's neutered and I and move him to the kitchen for recovery?

I've let Grafton play with Kinsey several times since her spay, and they still get along. He just won't stop mounting her.

Another thing - there is a shelf inside their cage that they jump on, and I'm wondering if after 20 days it will be okay for Kinsey to jump on it.

Thanks for your help!

The mounting could cause her stress

If she really hates it she will let him know

When I bond my buns i like to keep a spray bottle of water beside me,
If there was a behaviour > didn't like i would simply spray the rabbit on the head. The bad behaviour usually stops.

Maybe bond them in an open space such as your bathroom floor. That way the innocent :)P) bunny can run away if it wants

em.. If you bond them in the cage, always watch them! A couple of mounts is ok because your buck is just being territorial. If the doe doesn't respond to the male he will most likely get bored of her

I would not try to bond them until he is neutered and healed. Even if they do manage to get along now, they will have to be seperated in a few weeks when he gets done. The separation combined with his change in hormones can mean that they will have a different relationship later. If they were to bond before then, they might not get along after he is neutered.
I would keep them apart or closely supervised until he is done or can behave himself.

Yeah, I think you're right. They were well bonded before she had her spay, but I let them together for awhile today, and he simply won't leave her alone or stop mounting her. So...she's going to stay inside until he gets neutered and healed. Then I'll try again.
