I don't know what to do, Daisy is chewing everything and my

Daisy (male Dutch) is tearing the heck out of allthe carpet in the house, luckily the carpet isgoing to bereplacedeventuallyanyway, but my husband is gettingfed up. Daisy also tore a huge hole in one of our couch pillowsdigging.

Can someone help

First, you do need to keep him/her away from thecarpet chewing not just due to your hubby being angry, but because itcan harm the bunny.

Are they caged?

Just at night

You may have to cage them when you can't be withthem. There are some that just really can't be loose in anarea that they can chew or dig, etc.,

If you have a room you can bunnyproof that might work..... like if it has linoleum or tile?

I know some people put down sheets or something but I don't think itwould help with mine ...... he's just not allowed on carpet now causehe won't leave it alone.

You could try using a watergun and squirt them when they start to digorchew at the carpet. It works with somerabbits and not others.

If you can, any chance of you relocating them to a roomwherethere isn't carpet? It'sa hard habittobreak for rabbits, and the other problem is that the carpet fibers canpuncture their intestinal wall or cause a blockage which can usuallyonly be treated by an operation. Theconditioncalled GI Stasis.

I really hope your husband doesn't make you get rid of them.They're beautiful rabbits from what I can see on your avatar.I'd keep them locked up in a cage until you can be around to supervisethem and try a watergun to get them to stop. Also, make surethey have plenty of things to chew and an area to dig.Hopefully the distractions will help them, but still, it seems to be afavorite past time for some rabbits and you always have to keep an eyeon the ones that do that.

Hopefully someone will come along and have the cure-all answer for you.

Bo is caged in a NIC cage that I built. When he is out of hiscage, someone is always home and nearby. He has a room thatis in the center of our house with wood floors and it's beenbunnyproofed (until someone drags a toy or something in there lol)

He won't leave that room to go into the kitchen but he has tried to gointo a bedroom so we just close doors and entryways with various gates.

What is a NIC cage, I'm new to all of this bunny stuff.

Oh I'm sorry. They are these NEAT IDEA CUBES that a lot of us buy to build cages with.

If you look in the BUSTER and TUCKER thread, you'll see they haveone. You use the cubes and cable ties to build a cage of yourown design

Oh, and Raspberry's bunny Sebastian has a NIC penthouse......

Thank you Carolyn. He usually digs under beds orbehind the couch. I guess I made the mistake of giving them free reignof the house. I don't like keeping animals caged up except at night. Myhusband wants to put them out on the porch only problem is our porch isscreened in and we don't have screen doors on our sliders. I would wantto let them out and naturally they would come right in the house. I dohave some tile, Daisy hates walking on the tile. Another dilemma isDaisy the male beat up Rosie the female to the point of where Rosiewill not stay near him for a second. If he comes up to her , she runs.She is constantly on the run, which I feel really bad about too. Hechases her and bites her a lot also, so I couldn't keep them together.I recently seperated their cages. Thanks for your advice, Donnette

I took out the carpet in my bedroom and put downlinoleum so my buns wouldn't have to be caged all of the time. I'm surenot everyone would want to do this but it has worked great for me. Iwould rather have my babies than carpet any day of the week, and let metell you with the amount of animals that I have (6 cats,3 bunnies,hampsters, 9 turtles and torts, various frogs, fish, etc.), linoleum isa lot easier to keep clean.

I have a bunny who used to dig and pull up my carpet. Shefound an acceptable alternative and has stopped. I had arectangular basket full of magazines on the floor. That isher favorite toy now. The basket has slats on thesides. She pulls the magazines out through the sides, but herfavorite thing to do is to get inside the basket and dig and shreduntil her heart is content. She never bothers the carpetnow.

If you do something like this, just make sure they don'teattoo much of the paper they shred. Mine don't,butIstill keep an eye on them.

The only thing that should be changed is the carpet. I wasn't aware ofthe danger of carpet before I made this, I'm currently making a brandnew cage with a wire bottom and no carpet. You can use sea grass matsand stuff like that.

As for in the house, I had the same problem, I wanted my buns to beable to run around but they chewed a huge hold in the carpet. You couldget one or two large area rugs, the natural type, and connect one ortwo puppy pens together so that they can have free run in there whenyou can't watch them, when you're done everything folds up nice andsmall.

I just want to thank everyone for theirinput.You all have given me great ideas to help keep mybabies safe and here at home where they belong. Just last night myhusband mentioned again that we need to get rid of them and Itoldhim about this wonderful site and all the great infoavailable.I don't think he would actually MAKE me get rid ofthem since really is agood guy and we have 2 kids who arealso very attached.Now, I will take your ideas andmake some changessomy husbandsexperiencecan be as wonderful as mine and my kids with the rabbits. Thumper dose that too. She digswhen she is on my bed and when i put her on the floor my bed is to highfor her to jump off of lol she is scared of heights.She eats my carpet.So when i put her on the floor i give her all of her 15 toysand she leaves the carpet alone but when the toys arent down there sheeats the carpet.

Lenci is a HUGE carpet chewer. What Idid was blocked off all of her "chewing spots." I put aunder-the-bed tote underneath the couch and a large inexpensive rugfrom Walmart underneath the kitchen table for her to chew on.Hasn't stopped her from chewing, but at least she's chewing the ruginstead of the carpet. So far so good.

She is just luring you into a false sense of security. Then she will attack!
