I am just wondering because of my previous situation of 2 rabbits giving birth together and then being kept seperate because of them fighting, how soon can i spay them to try and re-bond them and prevent more births? They both gave birth on the 1st Oct, Mum Tatty ending up abandoning her babies after about 4 days, and Daughter Tianna-Ali ending up bringing up all 6. The babies are 3 weeks old today, so obviously i won't spay Tianna, but is it too soon to spay Tatty? Although Tatty has made a sort of nest so i worry tht mine would be one of the only rabbits that would get pregnant in 2 horns at different times, but as the babies are 3 weeks old she would have to have got pregnant again a week later to still be pregnant now, but the hutch was fixed according to my boyfriend. But after a pregnancy check is it too soon to do mum now? And how soon can i do the daughter with the babies? I'm not sure if i am going to keep the babies or not, but my favourites are all boys, so i also want Tianna spayed before the boys hit puberty so i can keep them with her if i decide to keep them. And finally, if i keep the daughters with their brothers, the boys will hit puberty about a month before the girls can get pregnant so could i get the boys neutered while still living with their sisters or is this risking it too much? Obviously i want no more accidents, but if i can keep the siblings together, there's more chance i can keep them all.

If the mom's milk has dried up, she can be spayed. So, seeing as she hasn't nursed a baby in three weeks, her milk is probably all gone now and is safe to spay her.

When I was fostering, the rescue I worked with would get the boys and the mom neutered/spayed at the same time when the boys are 10-12 weeks old. The girls would be next once they where about 16 weeks old. You should talk to your vet, and see how early they are comfortable neutering. The clinic we worked with had a vet who was able to do very young neuters, and if the testicles where on the brink of descending, the vet could tease them out to do the neuter. This meant that the boys could be done very early.

It is possible to keep the family together, but it requires constant monitoring of the boys and their testicles. As soon as you see one, they have to go in, along with mom, to get snipped.

That sounds like a great plan, i feel like i would be forcing mum to wean the babies but hopefully they would be weaned by then anyway so that might be a plan thanks.

I would advise that you call up your vet and discuss the situation with them. You could discuss the idea with them when you take the first mom who is now not nursing in for her spay. Make sure the vet is comfortable with neutering at a young age and how willing they will be to try and squeeze them in if testicles show up earlier than 12 weeks. I was able to book the neuters/spays with in a couple of days with the office we where working with.
