I've always heard you all talk about craisins.

I made the mistake of asking a store assistant in a few supermarkets about craisins, got looked at like I was insane, and ended up scuttling away when they just had no idea what on earth i was talking about. Come on!

Anyway I've looked everywhere for them for about a year, never having found them!!

I got a call from my sister while she was in Waitrose the other day saying she has found them!!! I could not believe my ears!!!

So could anyone tell me what the appropriate number for a treat is- I know they are very sweet so don't want to give too many.

Thankies:D

Jen:)

Just start with one. But to be honest, I would probably not give more than one in a go, unless it was necessary (like a treat test issue).

I tried mine with cranberrys and they looked at me like I was trying to poison them, lol.

I hope they enjoy them after all that effort.

LOL! Well I do hope they appreciate my efforts! I can always eat them myself otherwise...:p

Thanks I will limit them to one tasty morsel.

It will be hard to limit them to one if they like them! My bunnies chewed the bottom off of the bag they came in... They have also been known to snatch the bag out of my hand or throw it so the little morsels go everywhere!

Good luck with your bunnies, though! ;)

Clover got a bag once and ate what was left! She managed to reach it through her cage and tugged on it until it went in..... I still don't know how she got it from the inside......

Mine LOVE them. I give one and sometimes 2 if it's been a while since they had treats (they don't get them every day) ..... My sister bunnysat one time and she knew NOT to give Bo several........ so she did....... "But, but..... he was SO CUTE begging for them! and I loved watching him chew them up!"

So funny how the topic of Craisins came up, just when I picked up an extra large bag this morning. :biggrin2:
This is the first time I saw this size, but someone on the forum mentioned it was available.

On the left is the regular size bag (170 g) you find in the grocery shops. The extra large bag (1360 g) from today, and a snack size bag (28.3 g).

Ooh I'm so excited about buying them some to try!!! Yeah Ocean Spray have only just started advertising craisins....so I guess they haven't been particularly big over here.
Waitrose here I come!

They also sell them in Asda! Both the ocean spray varieties and their own brand too... And I could swear I've seen them in Tesco and Sainsbury's as well, although I've been on the dried fruit hunt for so long I can't remember what sells what anymore lol...

Mine were NOT impressed with craisins! They ran away from them. Maybe it's an American bun thing? :p

Mine are most impressed with dried pineapple, or dried banana slices. Chalk does the bunny dance that looks like :bunnydance: when she hears the banana bag rattle. Dotty climbs practically on my shoulder to reach dried pineapple.... Oh yeah, treat time is popular in our house!:D

Scone MacBunny goes wild for craisins - I have to limit him to one or two at a time.

Our local supermarket sells dried cranberries in the bulk food aisle, which is the same thing, but about half the price. Scone likes them just as well as the Ocean Spray brand name product.

I'm not sure if it's an American bunny thing.. my Malaysian bunnies go crazy for craisins too :p :p except for Hans.. he doesn't eat vege/fruit/treats. The only treat he loves is rolled oats. Fussy bunny!

Craisins=crack for bunnies.

LMBO! We don't see you for awhile and then when you show up: BAM! hilarity! and truth!

Mine also go crazy for dried papaya. I get it in our grocery and at the organic grocers.

I've never tried dried fruit with my buns- I always buy fresh fruit...which they adore...but I wonder whether they would love dried fruit. It would keep longer and would be a tasty mouth-sized treat....

:D
Any suggestions as to the best dried fruit? Banana? Do they like raisins?

Scone loves dried banana chips - just be sure to get the unsweetened kind, as banana has enough sugar already. I'll give him one or two chips as a treat, no more.

Although Craisins (or, more accurately, generic dried cranberries) are his favorite, Scone turns up his nose at raisins. He likes fresh grapes, which of course are the same thing - go figure.

Yeah my babbies love grapes- they chew them with their mouth open and so grape juice goes everywhere lol!!!!
Ah yes! Unsweetened- I'll make sure to get them without sugar- and I know that some have cinammon on them too.
So any dried fruits are okay really?

I would give only one large or two small craisins. Usually, though, I get organic-unsweetened raisins instead. Nick has tummy issues already, so I try not to give too much extra sugar. Craisins are a super-special treat at my house. (Also, that leaves most of the bag for me!)

I keep my treats in an airtight container out of reach of the bunnies. When it's treat time, they have to wait (anxiously, dancing around my feet!) while I get out the treats, then close the container before they can have them. No snatching of the bag or extra treats here!

I am a strict bunny mommy. (Jason knows he will be in BIG trouble if he gives extra treats, no matter how much he might want to.)

I just ordered a small bag of dried papaya pieces made my Sweet Meadow. The website indicates no added sugar? If all my bunnies like these, I may switch to those for bedtime treats instead of the raisins. (I used to also give a papaya tablet, but I ran out last week and Busy Bunny doesn't have them in yet. Also, Amelia doesn't like those, so I always felt I was being unfair by giving the other two bunnies two treats when she was only getting one.) My Whole Foods only has dried papaya with added sugar, and no other grocery stores near me have dried papaya. The raisins are pretty easy, though, so we'll see how it goes.

Morning fruit treat is a slice (1/4" thick or less) of fresh banana, or one Just Bananas unsweetened banana chip.

Yes, the rabbits at my house eat better than I do.

Dried pineapple is a BIG hit with my buns- they sell it in Tesco, the pure stuff- it's just pineapple with nothing else in. I've also seen it in our tiny local Co-op store, oddly enough!

Dried banana is also the best thing since sliced..... carrots? in our house.... Again, we just buy the stuff in supermarkets that just has the fruit listed in the ingredients. It lasts for ages, in theory, although they don't last long around our bunnies! :p
