Well recently I was watching Youtube (of course, who hasn't....:D) and I saw some rabbit hopping videos called "Chase Me Charlie". For those of you who may own & jump horses, you may have heard of it before. It's a game for any animal that jumps, whether it be dogs, horses, or- bunnies! :)

Basically, the animal has to jump over jumps and you see how high they get. Once they knock a pole, they're out. You're supposed to play with multiple people and their animals, but since Magic is the only bunny in our barn who can jump the best, I just played it with him. :biggrin2:

Anyway, I took him out yesterday and set up a jump. I started the height at 4 inches, and moved it up about 2 inches every jump, until I got to 14, then I couldn't get a 16" jump, so I had to make it 17" and then the next height was 21" because I couldn't get a 19" jump! Lol. My jump stands aren't spread every two inches, more like 2 1/2 to 3.

Anyway, I thought I'd share this with you guys. I tried to take all the videos and put them into one "movie" with titles and such, but the file converter I used only let two movies be able toactually workin the Windows Movie Maker:grumpy:, and then of course the file converter wouldn't convert the movie file:?, so here are all the videos (in order) seperately. There's only 9 videos, all very short - Approx. 10-20 seconds, it doesn't take him long to hop over one fence.

So, Magic was doing great with the game until the 14" jump, he knocked the top pole, but I kept going anyway. The game stopped after he pretty much took down the whole fence of 21" :p, not just the top bar....

Also, it looks like I'm handling him rough in the videos, but I'm not. He was raring to go and he was jumping fast, not because he was scared, but because those heights (apparently up until 14") were easy for him. He hasn't jumped a tall course in a while, so that's why he struggled from 14" up, but he did jump clear on the 17". It's funny too, he actually jumps higher than most horses can :D, especially when they're first starting out.

And then after the game, I set up two more jumps at low heights. The tallest is 14" and the lowest is about 10". I didn't really measure them, except I already knew what the last jump height was:

And just for the heck of it, here's the latest video of him jumping a course. This was taken on July 22nd (of this year; also my 16th B-day), and also one of the very first few times he's done a course like this:

Well enjoy! Leave replies! Thanks!

ETA: By the way, my voice actually doesn't sound all scratchy like that, my camera doesn't record good audio ;)

Great vids! Has he ever been in any contests/agility trials?

I might try a course with Casper tomorrow... Although I doubt he will go through a tunnel (ya know...these burrowing creatures and he dosent like tunnels! :p )

I can't believe how well your little guy does on his harness and lead. Magic really seems to enjoy doing the jumps for you. I really like the obstacle course. It must have taken a long time to set up, but Magic handled it well. He is one smart little guy :D.

Thanks Luv-Bunniz and MyHeart.

Myheart, yes, if you mean the big course, it was very difficult to set up! I had to figure out what jumps I wanted to use and where to put them. Yup Magic knows directions so I just have to move the leash a certain way and he follows right along with the aids.

Luv-Bunniz, I forgot to answer your question earlier :D. He actually has been to agility trials - just the ones at the county fair. He got 1st place this year at Thurston County fair. He did things he'd never done before - such as weave poles, boy am I glad that he knows directions! - and he also had to pause at some places and stuff, but he did great. He was one of the only rabbits to jump the large last one too, they could either go under or over, and he went over! Of course he knew better not to go under! Lol.

I have some new training videos from today. We worked on gridwork, and taking off for jumping. All ready I could see the difference after watching the videos! He no longer stops after the jumps! He just goes right through them all! :)

Wow, incredible video's! I really enjoyed seeing such team work between human and rabbit. You can tell right away how much Magic enjoys it! :)

That's so awesome! Great work!

Would love to try one of my guys with something like this, just have to find something to use for jumps now... hmm

Thank you, Spring.

As for jumps, you can easily use tree branches (make sure all twigs are off), and broom handles, etc. To prop up the poles, you can use flat, even rocks, chunks of wood, and/or bricks and anything else you can find.
