Hi guys,

As you know, I used to train my rabbit Ollie in the sport of rabbit hopping before he passed away. I also run a rabbit hopping forum, which, as of today, I am bringing back into activity (link is in my profile if you're interested). I am always interested in hearing about other people taking up the sport, and their experiences. I've been away for a month or two while I coped with the loss of Ollie, and I was wondering if anyone else had taken up the sport in that time? I'd love to talk to some people about their experiences.

For those who don't know, rabbit hopping is a sport in which rabbits on harnesses and leashes complete a course of jumps in a certain amount of time. Similar to horse show jumping, you are penalized for knocking down jumps, refusing jumps, leaving the course etc.

I saw this on you tube and was quite fascinated with it.. Is one breed better at learning this and would LOVE to get Baxter! to do a trick have a talent.. I'll definetly check our link..

I saw an article in one of the rabbit magazines a few years back. Maybe it was more than a few years, because at the time that I saw the article Patrick was at his prime and more than ready to do bunny-500's. I found out thatthe sport is popular in western US, but notorganized in the Midwest. Patrick is a lazy bunny-loaf now, so I haven't kept up on the rabbit-hopping. Personally, I think it is a great outlet for rabbits who have the extra energy and smarts to perform a course like that. ;)

I would love to and would most likely be bringing it up at a 4h meeting if I ever do go. I don't know about the equipment, though. :-\ I'm terrible at making things, and unfortunately bunny likes treats when he likes them. If he's not hungry, I'm screwed. :) I want to start with the sport a lot, but considering it took 2 weeks for him to get used to the leash, I don't know how it'll turn out.

I trained my last rabbit without ever having to take treats - he simply refused to eat outside of his hutch. I would encourage him forward from the back, then pat him and let him run around a bit when he hopped over. It worked for me. :) Good luck!

Rachel.
