I just joined Netflix and need some good movie recommendations.

What are your favorites?

*Edit* to answer JadeIcing's question:
I mostly watch comedy, drama, romance, family & animal & teen movies, some suspense/thrillers (but no horror), maybe even some fantasy, but not much science fiction. I'm open to just about any genre or subject matter, though, as long as it's a good movie with a good story, so post any of your favorites. Someone else may be interested if I'm not.

Yours, Mine, & Ours (Remake) - its ok but I love the original a lot more

Two I just watched and liked: The Astronaut Farmer and Twin Falls Idaho. The latter is a little avant garde, but makes you appreciate the ordeal of conjoined twins.

Um...here are a few of the top ofmy head, I always forget most of my favourite films!:D

The Naked Gun, You me and Dupree, Dumb and Dumber, Airplane, Meet the Parents (and meet the Fockers), The History boys, Black beauty, Seabiscuit, National (and international) velvet, Bridget Jones's Diary, The Notebook, Finding Neverland, Titanic, Monty Python's The Life of Brian, The Truman show...

That's all I can think of for now!:biggrin2:

My very small list of dvds. I mostly rent or borrow from friends.

In Japanese -
Detective Conan : Part 1
Princess Mononoke

In English -
America's Sweethearts
Beetlejuice
Cruel Intentions
Deep Blue Sea
The Devil's Rejects
The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer
The Fifth Element
Interview with the Vampire
Labyrinth
Memoirs of a Geshia
Mr. & Mrs. smith
The Red Dragon
Rose Red
Rush Hour
Rush Hour 2
Snakes on a Plane
Swing Kids

here's some from my dvd list that are my favourites:

overnight delivery (good light hearted laugh out loud stuff. it's about a guy who thinks his girl is cheating on him so he writes her a nasty break up letter. he then realises she wasn't cheating on him and so him and a female friend of his go on a mission to stop the letter from arriving.)

white noise (reeeally spooky, about a man who's wife died and he communicates with her spirit using EVP)

the exorcism of emily rose (scared the pants off me, based on a true story about a girl who claimed to be possessed by the devil)

green mile (made me cry my eyes out, about men on death row)

se7en (really great but not for the weak stomached about a serial killer acting out the seven deadly sins on his victims)

girl interrupted (really puts you off being locked up in a mental institution lol)

maybe baby (dry british humour but very charming movie about a couple trying to get pregnant)

silent hill (imagine yourself there - worst nightmare material. a woman's daughter goes missing in a real spooky town that has been shut down for years)

what lies beneath (great psychological thriller, very supernatural, about a woman who is convinced her house is haunted by a local girl who went missing)

mean girls (for a teen movie, this is very funny and easy to watch. it's about a girl who starts at a new school and gets involved with the popular nasty girls)

40 year old virgin (very dirty humour but it made me laugh a lot)

hard candy (a bit sick and twisted but very interesting movie about a girl who meets a much older man off the internet)

13 ghosts (when i saw this in the theatre, i screamed out loud and my popcorn flew everywhere lol it's about a house filled with trapped souls)

message in a bottle (this is the most romantic movie ever, you will cry and cry and cry)

bruce almighty (if you can stand jim carrey, it's great fun to watch!)

beaches (funny and sad, great story about friendship)

prime (a girly comedy about a woman and her therapist)

the craft (very spooky movie about witchcraft)

breakfast club (funny 80's movie about very different teenagers stuck in detention together for a day)

brokedown palace (intense bangkok hilton type movie about girls caught drug smuggling in thailand)

the labyrinth (kids fantasy movie. my bunny is named after the big hairy monster guy, ludo)

i've got heaps more but those are the ones i watch most :)

My all time favorites :):

300.
The 40 Year Old Virgin.
Anchor Man.
Grease.
The Notebook.
Harry Potter.
Lord of The Rings.
Wedding Crashers.
Shrek.

and more, but those are the movies that I watch most often.

Pffftt...I watch The 40 Year Old Virgin EVERY SINGLE night before I go to bed .

Great movie. I saw that one in the theatre. I'm a Clare Danes fan, anyway, going back to "My so-called life".

do you think either of them knew there were drugs in their bags? at first i thought alice might have been aware but now i think they were both set up.

Yeah, I don't know. I really need to buy that and watch it again. It's been awhile, but I remember liking the way it ended. It was one of those films that stick with you as you leave the theatre, and linger in your mind.

I'll tell you another good film is Rabbit Proof Fence. Very interesting film. I learned a lot about Australia.

Now that was a fabulously awesome show, and very, very sad

I cannot believe that show actually made it's way over there

I felt so sorry for those aboriginal people, such a shame how they were treated

Yes, it was an eye opener for me. i didn't know the history. The cinematography impressed me, too.

I live near an art house type theatre that gets lots of good films.

The first time i watched it i was just shocked at how the white people just came and snatched the children away,i cried so much

And it a very true story to

To this day the aussie government is paying for what they did all those years ago

The stolen children

Just a few weeks ago,an aboriginal man took the aussie government to court, and eventually won a law suit of half a million dollars
