Need ideas on what to feed Trixie now that she is 6 mos old. It would help me to just read what every feeds their ADULT rabbits daily...
Right now she is on unlimited timothy hay and Oxbox Bunny Basics 15/23 alfalfa-based pellets. I give her a sprig or 2 of parsley and cilantro every 2 weeks or so, and have also been giving her 1 oz at a time of romaine lettuce, green leaf, or kale. I haven't given them all at once, just one at a time and not every day. I need ideas for a daily diet...

Thanks! :)

What you're feeding now is just fine. Not all rabbits have to be switched to timothy pellets, and the Oxbow alfalfa pellets are lower protein than many other alfalfa pellets. If she's on unlimited pellets, you can cut them back a little. Start by slowly reducing her pellets until she eats all of them between feedings. Measure that, and cut back more depending on if you think she's not eating enough hay or she's getting chubby. 1/4 cup per 5 lbs is recommended but some rabbits do better with either more or less.

Are you looking to feed more veggies? You can if you want to and if Trixie tolerates them. I don't measure the amount of veggies my rabbits get daily, but I think it's about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of greens daily, plus occasional carrots and broccoli. The most common greens include green and red leaf lettuce, romaine, endive, escarole, cilantro, curly and Italian parsley, purple or green kale, collard greens, bok choy, carrot greens, radish greens (they only eat radish greens from the garden), and alfalfa sprouts. Since veggies are a major part of their diets, I feed at least three different types of leafy greens every day.

Hey Denise! Harper gets about a cup of pellets a day. He should be on less, I know, but I never finished cutting him back yet (He's 2 years old). He's on the Kaytee Timothy Complete diet. I agree with naturstee, nothing wrong with staying with Alfalfa based pellets. I loved it when Harper was on them, MUCH cheaper! But he has GI problems, and has had 3 bouts of GI stasis, and the vet recommended he stay on Timothy based for the higher fiber content. No problems since!

He's also on unlimited timothy hay, and he gets about 1.5 to 2 cups of veggies a day. This usually includes romaine and green leaf lettuce, carrots, carrot tops, dandelion greens, kale, cabbage, celery, green and red bell peppers, bok choi, tomato, broccoli, parsley, cilantro, collard greens, mustard greens, zucchini, and yellow squash.

He also gets the occasional piece of fruit, no more than twice a week. This is usually either a piece of banana or slice of orange.

Gretchen gets:

1/3 cup of alfalfa pellets in the morning
1 wad of timothy hay in the morning

at least 6 ounces of vegetables in the evening
1 wad of Timothy hay in the evening

For Mocha & Zoey:

- one bowl full of veggies (probably 1.5 - 2 cups daily) each
- 1/4 cup of Kaytee Timothy Complete/Oxbow Bunny Basics/T pellet mix each
- unlimited Timothy hay
- grass as desired through out the day when in run

For Spice:

- one bowl full of veggies (1.5 - 2 cups) daily
- 1/4 cup of Masterfeeds 16% protein Alfalfarabbit pellet
- unlimited Timothy hay
- grass as desired through out the day when in run

Spice wont eat Timothy pellets and doesn't seem to like any other brand as much as the Masterfeeds so I've just stuck to it without a problem with him but I did have issues with excess cecals when Mocha was on the Masterfeeds pellet (too much protein).

Salads mainly consist of Romaine, parsley, cilantro, carrot tops, raspberry leaves, watercress, radish tops, and dandelions.

Ruby and Millie have:

3 egg cup fulls of science selective pellets each (my vet told me that measurement!;)),

a bowl of greens (broccoli, spring greens, carrot tops, parsley, dandelions)

unlimited meadow hay and acouple of big handfulls of orchard grass,

as much grass as they want to eat while out in their run.

both my rabbits are on unlimited feed as herman dropped weight after his neuture (i think from the stress, then about 2 days after that we got really REALLY hot weather), and winnie gets it because with all the hay and veggies i am giving my rabbits they aren't really eating much pellets.winniehas a large crock, and i fill it up once every 2 to 3 days (it lasther that long). herman goes through way more pellets.

they also have timothy hay as much as they want and a small handfull of alfalfa (as they like that best)

they also get aobut 2 cups of veggies a day that normally includes: parsley, carrot, basil, sage, dill (we LOVE dill here), lettuce, dandelion greeds, musterd greeds, watermelon(only a little), pumpkin, banana, grapes, and herman gets orange every once in a while (even a little bit give winnie mouth soars. . .). . .plus LOTS of stuff. . .i printed off a rabbit menue (i think from here) and it is taped to the wall next to the buns cage. . .i highlight what they have eaten so i can keep track of what foods they have had and haven't. . .

Our bunns get about a 1/8 cup of pellets per day. Unlimited greens and unlimited mixed grassy hay. Our vet would like to see us cut out pellets all together but I like to have them there in case they are munchy!:) We used to free feed but they were eating too many pellets and not enuff hay...we had excess cecals all over the place. Now they are much better!:D

Charlotte and Vendetta eat out of the same bowl and are very good about eating equal amounts (they both way 3.25 pounds). They share a heaping 1/3 cup of Oxbow Bunny Basics T (timothy hay pellets), about two cups of spring mix salad, a couple baby carrots or a couple of small peppers, and of course unlimited timothy hay. They get a small medallion of banana each once a week, or sometimes a smallstrawberry each.

Ellie (10 pound NZW) and Hazel (10 pound mixed breed) each get 1/4 c. Oxbow Bunny T in the AM, 4 c. mixed greens in the PM and unlimited locally-grown timothy hay all day and night.

My three Californians (4 months) get 2/3 cup ofpellets.

My two netherland dwarfs get 1/3 cup pellets.

My two mini lop/californian crossbreds (four months) get one cup of pellets shared.

My old Californian buck (eight years) gets a cup and a 1/3 approx.

In the winter they are fed grass/alfalfa hay and a suppliment to help keep them warm.

All are fed at night.

Ellie

Morning time is the main feeding for our bunnies. All are adult buns.

Example:

Tootsie (10 lbs): 1/2 cup pellets (mix of half&half alfalfa & timothy), 1/2 tspn rolled oats, big wad of timothy hay, fresh water.

Evenings is treat/greens time: each night is different....
~ timothy cubes twice a week
~ 1+1/2 cup of romaine twice a week
~ dried papaya twice a week
~ another big wad of timothy hay every night

Tina and Turbo share 1/2cup of Timothy pelletsevery morning. When I first come downstairs I let them run in theliving/dining room for 30-60mins - depends how much time I have to letthem loose.

We keep their hay trough filled with Timothy hay

At night they usually get a handful of greens - parsley, kale. Imreally not sure if Tina is eating greens. And they get to run looseagain.

Occasionally they get a Timothy hay cube (mostly) or another kind of treat
