I want a dog so badly, but my mum is alergic to fur.I love dogs, and my fav. is a german shepherd. But 1. My mum dosent like them, and 2. shes alergic. She said even if she wasnt we prob wouldnt get one, i m trying to talk to her about dogs that dont shed fur, but she wont listen. I thought about getting a rabbit but she said no again, because our garden isnt fenced. Plz help! I dont know what i wud do if i cant have a dog, or a rabbit, i love animals too much! any ideas?

Honestly, there is little you can do to convince a parent to allow you to purchase a pet. I love animals, but I had to wait until I moved out of my parents house to get a pet. I suggest that you finish school and then get a pet when you move out and are able to care for them (time and money wise). Dogs and rabbits can be very expensive, it is your mother's money and she can choose what to do with it. Your money right now should be saved for college and not on a pet.

No one in my family is allergic, but I do think it is unfair to ask someone to have to live with their allergy. If my husband suddenly became allergic to one of my pets, the animal would have to be re homed.

I would ask my mother if I could volunteer at a local shelter or nature center and help take care of those animals, I have done that in the past and it does help get rid of the longing for animals - and you will be helping homeless pets.

Thanx krissa, I really appreciate the advice! Its just that loads of my friends in scl have pets and I go over to there place sometimes and I would want to start playing with there dog or bunny, but they dont want to cuz they can do that any time, they want to go 2 da cinema or something. But thank u so much 4 the advice ur very kind,

I am also allergic to dogs and cats, but it's the dander, not the fur that makes you sick.

I have tried every type of dog. I am just as allergic to non-shedding dogs as regular ones. I was told Chihuahua's wouldn't make me sick, but they do.

I understand why your mom says no to a dog. It is horrible to live with allergies. It's very difficult to breathe. Most people don't understand and think it's only a runny nose and sneeze here and there, but it can be really miserable.

lol... theres a new breed of dog that was "made" for people who are allergic. its a poodle mixed with i think either a lab or a retreiver.. im not quite sure. maybe retreiver. by my dads house theres a lady that lives across the street and she breeds them and sells them all over the united states because so many people who are allergic to animals dont show any signs of being allergic around them.

what about a chinese crested? ive always heard that theyre a good breed for people with allergies to get... dont know how true it is though:?

Didn't you post earlier that you're 22 years old and you recently got engaged? Maybe you should move out, then get a dog.

Agh yes the Labradoodle. Someone near me has one, ive seen them walking it. It is very cute. They were originally bred for blind people who need a guide dog, but are allergic to fur. I think its great what they have done, even though in some cases breeding animals like that is very cruel.

It took me 14 years to persuade my mum & dad to get a dog! There excuse was I wouldnt pick up the doo doo's, or I would soon go off it. No matter how hard I tryed to convince them I wasnt like that, there answers were always the same.

I would wait until you move out if your parents dont want any pets. After all, its their house (and money) that it is going to be taking.

It will give you something to look forward to when you move out :D

Before I got my dog I would go down to my local kennels and walk the rescue dogs. It was great fun, and it also showed my parents that I was interested in dogs and how much I really wanted one.

emma you dont have any rabbits why are you on this forum? :?

Go on internet. Look up ''designer Dogs''. These are the new thing I guess. Popular first generation crosses of dog breeds.

Like the Beagle X Pug = Puggle.
Lab X Poodle = Labradoodle
Golden REtr. X Poodle = golden Doodle
Cocker spaniel X poodle = Cockapoo
Shnauzer X poodle = Schnoodle
yorkie X poodle = YorkiePoo

There are a LOT of poodle crosses because the offspring takes on thepoodle trait of being hypoallergenic. Designer dogs are racking up bigbucks now. Don't expect to find a puggle around here at least for under$1,000.

Another idea might be perhaps to look into those places that trainguide dogs. What you do basically is pick up your guide dog to-be. Alab or golden retr or GSD, what have you. And you potty train it andwork with it and socialize it and whatnot. You put a lot of time intoit and take care of it. And when the dog is of a certain age, it goesinto guide/service dog training. Your mum might go for that because thedog would not have permanent residence at your home. I know it might behard fo you to part with it afterwards, but its nice to know thatyou're doing a good thing. And later on you're allowed to visit withteh guide dog and his new owner, and be thanked a million times overfor bringing them a new set of eyes, or helping hands. It makes it allworth while. Your mother might overlook everything else if its like, you're doing a good thing, y'know? community service and all taht jazz.

Also some humane societies and shelters do something similar....somedogs that have been at the shelter for a really long time, they let gohome with people for a week or a couple days to get out and spend timewith people and shtuff. Same concept though, but you do have the optionof keeping the dog. This might give your mumthe chance to fall in lovewith the pooch. A lot of shelter dogs have really sad stories you canuse to butter her up.
'''But muuuumm....Barkley's former owner ran him over with the car and he has 3 legs and loves cheese and cries if he's alone.."
"Aw well he can stay here in our no-animal policy house."
Look into the ASPCA for same thing.

If all else fails....get a dog-faced puffer.

peace out

Don't get me started on the whole "designer dog" theory, I'm totally against it...

Mixed breed dogs just like those can be found in any shelter.

but, fostering a dog, say a poodle, might be a nice idea, ifyour parents were up to it, or just find a rescue or shelter that youcould volunteer at, show your parents how responsible you are whilegetting your dog fix. That's how I get my kittyfix.

I fully agree Missy. Those dogs are nothing butmixed breed dogs with a new name. If you want a mix breed, foster onefrom a shelter, or better yet, rescue one from the local pound. Thoseare the dogs in the most need of homes.

Poodles are nice pets though, I like them. Like Missy said, maybe youand your family could foster one. It's a bit better in your casebecause if problems arise, you're not committed. Fostering also letsyou see if the dog is right for you and your family.

We did that when I bought my dog Audubon. She's a MIXED BREEDDalmation/English Pointer (should I call her a Dointer? Or a Palmation?LOL) that we rescued from the local animal shelter. She's 5 years oldnow and we got her when she was 9 weeks. Before adopting her, Ifostered her for a few weeks to see if she would be a good fit for me.This included getting along with the other dogs and just fitting intothe family. In the end, we adopted her.

Fostering a dog in need, like from a shelter, is a great idea. Mostpounds and SPCA's don't do foster's, however they are the dogs in themost need of rescuing due to the risk of being euthanized. I'd look ata pound or a shelter WAY before I go pay a greedy breeder for a mixedbreed dog.

EDIT: ... stupid spelling mistakes.
