I was at my local PJ's pet store today, just browsing through all the available brands of rabbit pellets they offer and they have a LOT. My goodness, I'm not even sure where to start to compare them. For anyone living in Canada (and I ask this because US probably offers more variety), which pellet and timothy hay brand do you feed your buns? I'm in Alberta.

Thanks!

Hi Katy,

We use Oxbow pellets. We get them at our vets or at a store called Global Pets.

For the hay we use KayTee

Soooska:apollo:

Hi Kathy...we use Martins Less ActiveAdult Rabbitfood mixed with one of the not so good alfalfa based ones. I've found it is really hard here to find any variety of food. And other than Martins all the ones I have found are alfalfa based. Martins is a Timothy food my rabbits don't seem to mind (unlike the one other brand we tried...it ended up with bowl tossing!). It has a low protein, high fibre mix that I like.:)

Hi - I use the same as Soooska. Oxbow Bynny Basics/T for pellets. I get it from Global Pets and I feed them Kaytee for hay - which is just from Petsmart.

:yeahthat

I mix the Martin Less Active with the Oxbow BBT, and a cheap (but good) alflalfa, Co-Op I think. The all get a different mix depending on their hay consumption. (The big hay eaters get more of the cheap stuff, Pipp doesn't get any, she's stuck with the Oxbow).

Martins Less Active is actually both a Timothy and Alfalfa pellet.

Timothy Meal, Soybean Hulls ,Wheat Middlings, Barley, Soybeans, Dehydrated Alfalfa Meal, ...

But it's still a decent pellet and Timothy is the main ingredient.

I've had a hard time finding a decent pellet as well but I'm now feeding a mixture of Kaytee Timothy Complete and Oxbow Bunny Basics/T which is quit expensive but I have seen a huge improvement in one of my bucks so I'm sticking with it. I get it from my vet.

I buy farm hay which is so much fresher and nicer than store bought hay.

I sent you a private message, I hope it's of help!

Hi Kathy, I'm in Ontario and feed my two LabDiet #5326 Hi-Fiber Rabbit Pellets. As for hay, I buy a bale at a time from the local feed store. I tried my rabbits on the KayTee hay from PetSmart, but it was very expensive compared to regular baled hay, and they wouldn't touch it! (LOL...fussy bunnies.) Not sure how good the quality of hay is that I'm giving them, as the feed store buys it from local farmers and they don't know if it's alfalfa or timothy, but at least they do eat it, and the bales are always fresh.

Right now, I'm feeding the energy plus feed that Pipp feeds from Co-op. I might have to change to Martin's less active though because of fussy mussy Pebbles.

Oh, Bassetluv, what doesthe hay look like? Alfalfa has lots of leavesand less stems and is very sweet smelling, timothy has more of the stems and such.

Hi Kathy!

My bunny is such a small eater. All the foods I get lasts her along time.

My next purchase of Oxbow Bunny Basic T will be from a local Vet. There are several Vets that can bring it in. Even though the price is high, it is the only way to get it here, and the most convenient way to get it.

For Hay, I can get it from some local breeders, or like MBB says some of us canget it froma farm and share it with others.

Rainbows! :)

Spring, I guess the bale I have right now is timothy, since it has more stems than leaves, and some of the 'cigarette' spears -- when we were kids we had timothy grass growing all around our schoolyard, and it had the heads that looked like cigarettes...LOL, we would pull them out and pretend we were smoking. :D Hey, it was cheap entertainment back in the days before cable....hehe

Do you like it? I looked into it but it's high in fat and I really do not like the fact that it contains animal fat in it. I was hoping to find a cheaper alternative to Oxbow but that really put me off.

Thank you everyone for your responses! Time for me to look into every one mentioned here :)

Hey, Pet_Bunny, I use Sun Seed Sunthing Specialpellets and sometimes the hay. My rabbits lovethem. If the pet store I get it from is out, I'll get Kaytee, and they don't like that as much! It's cheaper than otherstoo! Lately, I've been getting another brand of hay, Kaytee, because it came w/ Snuffles. The Sun Seed hay is notgreen at all and leaves alot of dust in bottom of bag.
