My wife and I went to look at cats yesterdayafternoon. The thing is, I'm really allergic to cats. Fortunatly, I amnot allergic to my bunnies!

I went to the cattery, where the breeder has Sphynx and Cornish Rexes.Although I didn't not feel any symptoms from just being in the sameroom as 25 cats or when I petted it, I let the cat lick my fingers, andtouched my face... hey... gotta test if I'm allergic or not, right?

Turns out I am. My eyes got swollen red. My wife is so disapointed... I'm heart broken... I want a kitty.

Here's the cattery

Awww, I'm sorry to hear that! :(Frankly, I have the same thing with dogs - i have hives.

I'm no expert on any medications or anything, simply I'm just apre-teen, maybe ask your doctor about a perscription that helps you bebe kindanon-allergic? Just a thought..

Aww, what a shame, you must be so disappointed.Still, better to find out now, than bring one home, fall in love withit, and then find out your allergic. You certainly did the right thing.

I suppose you will just have to have more bunnies ;)

aaawww *sad face*

I am allergic to cats too and not bunnies (see how much we have incommon! hehee) which is what probably stopped me from everdreaming of becoming a veterinarian, but after many years of doing onecareer and another I alway come back to my love of animals. Idecided to apply for vet school (wish meluck!)andnot have cat clients for my future practice, but I took a job as a vetassistant and took allergy pills to keep me sane from cat allergies butone day I realized that I forgot to take my pill and I was ok holding acat!

I had read many articles about subjecting your body to your allergiesand sometimes you are able to build up an immunity to it overtime. Never really thought it was true but after being at thepet hospital for almost a year, I still have allergies but they aren'tso bad as long as I continue my rituals of washing my hands, nottouching my face or nose etc etc. Maybe you could volunteerat the cattery for while, build up an immunity like I did!

hope that helps!

Awwww! that's too bad! If it helps any, I'm alergic to my little sister's guinea pigs. She has
no plans to get rid of 'em, so it looks like I'll be stuck with it until I leave for college. *sigh*

I am glad you tested yourself before you got a cat.

I am also allergic to cats. I'm allergic to every animalexcept rabbits! That's another reason I love the bunnies somuch.

thats to bad:(, the little kitten would have gone to a great home, but take comfort in knowing that you have two gorgeous buns:)

cheryl....

I know... but a cat is a cat. Bunnies areaffectionate, in a different way. I love my bunnies and there is no wayI would get rid of them, but a cat would have been a nice addition toour own private little zoo ;-)

I still haven't given up hope... we'll see...

thanks for the "support" ;)

Have you talked to your doc about gettingshots? I had discussed it once with mine. I thinkthat when you are done with the series, you are supposed to be immuneto that type of allergen. I didn't do a whole lot ofresearch, as I changed my career and am no longer working outdoors, which was the problem.

Hi Proxima centauri...I would talk to a really good allergist. If your eyes swell then it could be possible for other areas to swell with too much exposure. If your throat became swollen that could be life-threatening. Talk to the doc first.
