Hi! :D So, my rabbit, Milo, is about to be six months old. I’m kind of stressing about how to do a pellet free diet. I read it’s one cup per two pounds of body weight, he is about 4 pounds, so that would be two cups. But if I did a pellet free diet would I have to double that? And how do I know how much of each vegetable to give him?

Is there a reason you are wanting to do a pellet-free diet? The general recommendation for quantity of pellets is quite low (roughly 1/4 cup/day). Unlimited hay would be the bulk of a good diet, followed by generous greens. The pellets just ensure that certain nutrients are not being missed.

It is possible to do a pellet-free diet but it would take quite a bit of research on the nutritional composition of each type of green/vegetable. Then you'd need to compare that info with the recommended nutritional needs of a rabbit to come up with a balanced menu.

Here is some further info with quotes and opinions from some well-respected rabbit experts:

Thanks for getting back to me. I was reading how pellet free diets are healthier for the rabbit because it’s what they would get in the wild, so I thought I should give it a whirl, but it’s way more complicated. I think I will go with a diet with pellets. :)
