Hurt hind leg…HELP!

First off, I did contact an emergency vet. They told me it was not an emergency and I should wait a few days. I AM A HIGE WORRY WART. Even with my not furry kids…LOL!

Yesterday we had Bun Jovi in his cage for around 2 hours while we went to a birthday party. He normally free roams most of the day. When we opened his cage and he hopped out, my husband noticed he was keeping his R hind leg elevated and not putting it down much. He is eating, going to the bathroom normally and acting like his goofy self but I can tell (as his momma) that his leg hurts. I have lightly gone over the whole leg feeling any differences between the 2 and he doesn’t mind me checking, I feel no difference. I have checked his toes, nails and nothing there either. The 2 vets I spoke with believe it’s a pulled muscle, but he is the first bunny I’ve owned in a while and have never experienced this….I’m just worried about his fluffy butt. Any help or suggestions?

As long as he continues to eat and poop fairly normally, and his behavior isn't really subdued and lethargic, I would do as the vet says and give it a few days to see if there's improvement. If it's just a pulled muscle or bruising, he should be doing much better by then. Though you may want to restrict his activity somewhat, just so it can have a chance to heal and not risk reaggravating the injury.

But if he's not doing better after a few days, or if he stops eating and becomes lethargic, then he does need to be seen right away.

Thanks! It’s just so stressful not knowing what happened to fully assess the situation. Hoping he feels better in a few days thank you

One thing you could do, is if you feel he's experiencing some pain or has some inflammation, you could phone up the vet and request to pick up some meloxicam(NSAID) to help with that. Or if you already have some from a previous prescription of his, if it was me I would give some for the pain. But it's prescription, so it would be up to you if you want to do that. Or you can phone your vet and ask about giving it.

We had our rabbit come back from the vet with a completely floppy hind leg, which we assumed to be paralysed. We never got an answer but we assume he’d been dropped or injured at the hospital.
Over the next few weeks he gradually made a full recovery.

I’d give him metacam regularly for a while like JBun suggests, and give him some time.
If you have a slippery smooth floor then you could also make sure he has a soft carpet or soft children’s playmats to get around on.

Wanted to update! Its been 3 full days and he is still not putting full weight on it, but he is now using it. He must be feeling better cause he has done a couple bunny flops. I think he will make a full recovery over the next week
