Slowly getting worse vision

Hi everyone,

It seem like Toste is getting worse vision because he start to react more even though it’s still light. Before he would never react the way he do since I learned he had bad vision but now if you approach him, he can lung towards us. He will always stop when he notice it’s anyone he knows.

I’m just thinking that when I have the money to operate his ears. Which will be affordable next month. Will he truly have a good life when his sight is slowly getting worse now also. Will a fully deaf bunny with worsing eyesight truly live a happy life. If it was only one condition no problem because the ears or sight could help him navigate but losing both. Will he still be able to be bonded to Fenris and will he have a happy rabbit life.

Because I know he loves running around and do zoomies. He love sitting up high to watch over his space and he love jumping outside. I’m starting to think I should maybe let him go instead of pushing him to do operations.

I just don’t know what to do, I want him to be with me for many more years but I don’t want him to suffer.

Toste have also stopped jumping up onto furniture and started to not move as much. He rather slowly move around the area than running around and flopping.

That's always a hard decision. I guess it would depend on how well he adapts. Some rabbits adapt just fine, and can still be happy eating their veggies and treats, and snuggling up with their bun friend. Others will really struggle. You would have to keep his environment unchanged, so he will always know where things are. And find a way to let him know you're close, without startling him. I think you would just have to see how he does. And maybe postpone the surgery(if it can be delayed at all) until you're sure he is still having a good quality of life.

If he isn't, and is really struggling and unhappy, then sometimes it really is the kindest thing we can do, to let them go and have that peace.

I’m going to book a time at the vet because Toste stool have gotten mucus in it now. It have just started and he’s on a hay diet with a small amount pellets and leafy greens from the store. None of the other bunnies have showed any changes.

So it have to be checked and I will also ask about the vets opinion about his health. Because he get super scared when Fenris do binkies and zoomies. He run away when you approach him slowly the reason why I think it’s getting worse. I’ll see when I get a time at the vet.

We are going to the emergency vet because his stool have turned into diarrhea now. His bum is a mess and he attacked fenris and lunged towards me. So he’s not feeling good because this is not normal for his behavior. Even though he’s eating normal but I’ve noticed I need to fill up their water bowl more often, might be because he’s drinking more.

So depending on the news, I might let him go. He’s been on a hay diet since I noticed the mucus covered droppings. As to not upset his tummy more. I’ve seen him eat hay as normal.

We talked with the vet and we are planning to let Toste fall asleep. But we are going to do tests to rule out if it’s parasites. So we can know if the other bunnies will need treatment or not. Because they share common area with each other and Fenris live with him.

It sounds like it's the best thing for him, with all of these health issues that have started happening with him. This way he won't suffer.
