Anyone use a uv lamp with their bun? Ruby's doctor thinks she needs one. Vitamin D. He went over all these studies he's read (he does that every time he sees her). So I got the bulb, gonna get a timer, as he suggested.... But not sure when to have it on. Evenings for about 4 hours? We really get very little direct sunlight in. Covered porch and trees. It's kinda dark without lights on. I've been reading a few articles and am thinking it might be a real good thing for her. Anyone else have experience, thoughts, opinions?

I curious as well. I've heard of the same studies, but my boys are in a room that is mostly windows, so they get plenty of light, just not sure if they're getting the proper UV exposure, as most windows block some, if not all UV wavelengths.

Okay, Well I got the bulb, he sells them in his office. I'm thinking instead of getting a timer I'll just put it in the overhead light and turn it on after work until bedtime that will give her 3 to 4 hours everyday consistently.

My rabbits live indoors, rarely go out, and have lived pretty healthy lives this way for the last 9 years. And I've never used a UV lamp. Their pelleted food does contain vitamin D, so unless there was a blood test showing a deficiency, it's not something I would be too concerned about, provided a fresh good quality pellet was being fed.

I guess you can always try it and see if you notice any difference.

@AVIE and others. Is there any help after using the UV lamp? My vet advises it for 40 minutes a day. She says that it's helpful for bones, teeth and joints. Rabbit is indoor 24/7 and there's only one window in the room.
