My bunny is going to be getting neutered very soon (next one-two months). My bunny is pretty shy, having been mistreated by his previous owner, so bonding with him was a tough process. However, now he is really friendly with me and everyone else. I’m just worried that him being put through the stress of being neutered will make him scared of me and my family all over again! Do you have any kind of tips for me and my bunny?

You don't need to worry! Neither of the three times my bucks got neutered did anything change about them to make them hate me. Sorry for the wonky sentence, brain's asleep over here,
Contrary to that, Musti mellowed out with his puddling on my bed and stopped humping at my pillows and legs although he still liked to destroy my sheets. I was okay with that. He stopped grunting and endlessly circling my mum for he was a very very teenage boy before neuter. He became more calm, sitting with us for hours on end, leaving only to toilet, then come back and beg for more head rubs. I still miss him.

Storm stopped nipping me as much, although he's developed what dad and i like to call cosmos eyes- if he's deeply curious or mad about something his pupils will expand to near black. We are to blame for this specific thing though. He stopped trying to jump over one meter walls. It's about 40"-42" i think.... He is more chill with us interacting with him too. I think we've grown to love each other.

Now Lümi, I don't know much about what he was like pre-neuter. Apparently he swithced his orbit of interest from wires to everything paper. We got him and almost immediately booked for the op. He's a mellow, energetic, happy go lucky kissy fool of a rabbit and i love him.

Certain personalities lend themselves to providing affection once they've gained trust. I hear you on being concerned about changes if your boy had mistreatment or abuse, or reasons to fear human handling. Or any handling by a stranger or qualified human who speaks bunny language at the DVM clinic.

Constantly reassure him up until the day he goes in for his neuter appt. Say the DVMs name, saying Dr. YZ will take good care of you., etc., etc. Do you know the CVT staff? You can request certain bunny-speaking CVTs care for your boy. Not All CVTs speak bunny language! No scruffing, and let your DVM know his background and your concerns. Provide loving reassurance all the time.

Many of our scared, apprehensive buns have mellowed and become groomers, kissers, cuddlers, in their senior years. Prior, not as much. Hope this helps.

Will your clinic do pre-surgery blood work to check for blood clotting, liver and kidney function, anemia, hydration, lung funtion?

Thanks for the info and tips. I’ll definitely ask my vet about the pre-surgery blood work. I’m thankful to all of y’all who have taken the time to answer me about my question.😊
