Hey guys can anyone help me .
my bunny has a swollen and gunky eye And the third eyelid is red and swollen to. Been to the vets had a week on isathal drop s but not much improvement now he’s on tiacil on day 4 but his eye doesn’t look any better . the vets have tried to flush tear duct but no lucky and checked for an ulcer all fine. Can anyone suggest anything else I could try ? He gets this problem every year especially when the whether changes . I’ve been told to give the drops at least a week before I ring back up and can get another eye drop . Nothing seems to be working at the moment . Any help would be great thank you.

What I would do is wait until that round of eye drops from the vet is done. If it hasn’t worked, try using unmedicated saline solution three times a day for five days - give or take a few. Tell your vet that you will be using that, and if it hasn’t worked after that round, (or) you can also ask your vet if they might give something else.
That’s what we did when Apollo got Conjunctivitis

One thought is that there's inflammation that needs to be reduced. Maybe ring up early, tell them there's no improvement and ask if you could try adding an anti inflammatory eye drop as well. Sometimes it's not just the bacteria causing a problem, but inflammation as well.

Another possibility is that because this is reoccurring and linked to a time of year, it could be allergy related. In which case I would ask your vet about trying a rabbit safe antihistamine like chlorphenamine/chlorpheniramine. Or there's benedryl(diphenhydramine), but this could also cause drowsiness. Though in the UK I think your benedryl is a different drug and I don't know if you have diphenhydramine available. I do know that you do have Piriton(chlorphenamine) and that it has been used to treat allergy issues in rabbits there.

If you do end up having to switch to a new antibiotic, sulfa, ciprofloxacin, and neo/poly are some that I've had to use in the past that have worked. It could be the bacteria involved isn't sensitive to the eye drops you've used so far.

If none of these solutions work, there is looking at the possibility it's dental related. Some eye issues in rabbits are linked to a dental issue being the primary cause. In which case you would need to have a thorough dental exam done and possibly head xrays.
