I took Apollo to the vet exactly a week ago because his right eye was runny. I took him as soon as I could get an appointment - which was only about a half-hour after I saw it. They told me that he had 'slight conjunctivitis' in that one eye and gave antibiotic eye drops for it. I've followed their instructions to do one drop three times a day for a week. They also told us that it was probably due to him putting his whole head in his hay - which he does all the time. It seemed to be getting better after about three days and continued to look okay. I had to leave this weekend and left my mum with him. I know that she prioritized doing his eye drops but missed one out of the nine. I gave him eye drops last night before I went to bed and this morning his eye was looking very matted and he is losing fur under it. He's eating, sleeping, drinking, pooping, and playing the exact same as he always had. I'm meant to stop giving him eye drops after tonights one but I don't think it'll be enough. I've looked and seen that other people have had the same sort of problems with their bunnies. His eye is looking less red than before but still a little, and it isn't runny anymore I don't think

I just have a few questions:

Should I continue eye drops?

Will his fur grow back?

Do I need to go back to the vet?

Our vet is quite expensive , so we try to only go for emergencies and check-ups or vaccinations. Of course, I'll go to the vet if I have a big problem but I prefer not to.

Thank you.

I would continue giving him the drops, and his fur should grow back. I wouldn't be too concerned. Our dog got a really bad case of conjunctivitis and the vet said to keep applying the medicine until the eye was healed.

Ok. Thank you! It looks a little better this morning. His fur around the eye looks a lot better so I’m guessing he’s cleaned it.

Okay, so I’ve come back to this thread because the problem has come back but worse, at least I think. It has been clear since then but last night, did my ‘check up’ on him, and his eye was a little wet and was balding in a tiny spot. This was at 11pm and it isn’t affecting him so told my mum and she said she’ll call the vet after work. So we haven’t done that yet. Apollo’s fur around his eye is quite wet and I can now see the skin, where the fur was.

The eye drops I have from the vet a few weeks ago (almost three), says to use within three months of opening, so they’re still good.
Once I call the vet I’ll know if he needs to go in and what they think.

just wondering if anyone has had the same problem where it went and came back? And is it conjunctivitis, cause I’m a little unsure?

picture 1: is the same day I saw it three weeks ago after the vet
Then it went back to normal with a little bit of fur missing
Picture 2: is today

I’ve come back here again because Apollo’s eye looks yellow and wet. I used the solution (the one that I linked) for the first time earlier today. It’s been four hours since then and his fur around his eye looks yellow and wet. The wetness is normal because that’s what I’m trying to fix.

Does know why his eye’s yellow?

Im thinking that it could be a residue from the solution the vet put on but that was months ago now.

Also, his eye seemed to be getting better. The last time I saw it this wet was probably six or seven days ago.
And the ingredients in the solution: water, saline solution, hypocholorous

Do you mean the eye itself looks yellow, the fur around the eye, or the skin? I can't really see in the picture what you mean.

I don’t know why his eye could be yellow, you should call back the vet again. Tell them that if it’s normal for the eye around it to look yellow. It’s been quite a while that your bun has had that with his eye, you should call just in case. I hope your bun gets better soon!

Sorry, I meant the fur around the eye. The wet bit. It’s cleared up now, so I’m guessing that it’s was residue from when the vet put an ointment on his eye.

Thank goodness!:) is his eye doing better?
I think so! His eye doesn't seem as wet as it did before. And he hasn't lost anymore fur! I've been using a saline kind of solution (The one that I linked) three times a day and it seems to have helped! When it gets better I think that I'll still use it but once a day instead (it says that that's okay on the box). Thank you!
