I just noticed this on my bunny’s foot. My bunny is free roam on one floor and has different floor types- hardwood, fleece blanket, carpet. He is very active and it doesn’t seem to bother him unless I try and gently sweep the fur to look at it. Is this abnormal and should I see a vet or keep an eye on it? Is there anything I should put on it? Should I change the type of litter?

thanks!

also here is a picture

To me, it looks like a callous and not a sore hock, but I'm a bit new to the world of rabbits myself. I'd say if it has had any redness or bleeding/scabbing recently it's a hock issue and that if it's not inflamed that it's a callous from maybe a previous issue. I'm sure there will be someone that is way better than myself at answering that question. I've not come across sore hocks in my bunny yet so I'm curious about what it is as well. The only way I've ever seen sore hocks is in pictures.

My Rex has this same thing on his feet. I instantly thought it was a sore hock but i Googled it and realised it didn’t cause him any pain or anything. So I covered my floor (carpet) with loads of blankets/sheets. I still keep an eye on it but it’s hasn’t changed. Took him to the vet to get his nails clipped and asked them to check it for me. They told me that it was probably due to abrasive flooring, it isn’t too problematic unless it begins to split. They didn’t give me anything for it. Sadly, however, it won’t heal over.
I think it can also be caused by weight (overweight rabbits are prone to them), and of his nails are too long.

I noticed something similar on my bunny a couple months ago. It never seemed to bother him but after some research I trimmed his nails and put soft hay bedding in his cage (where he is at night) and that seemed to do the trick, it’s barely noticeable anymore. If I were you, I’d just keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn’t get red/inflamed. Try to keep your bun on soft surfaces as much as possible and make sure nails are trimmed. Good luck!
