My rescue rabbit had a crusty rash on his rump. My vet found that he had mites causing the problem. He is being treated with a series of three shots over 4 weeks.

I had to clean his bedding and every few days clean the area and gently groom with a wire brush.

Any suggestions for keeping the mites contained. He is free roaming and likes to sit on my lap.

Usually just treating with the correct medication(ivermectin or Revolution/selamectin) and throwing away any contaminated hay will resolve the problem.

One thing to watch for is if the rash was actually on the genitals and not the bottom, that it could be rabbit syphilis and not mites, especially if the mite treatment doesn't clear it up. If it's on the actual bottom, then never mind that.
