Dortmund decided that he is a free range Rabbit two days ago and has hid in the 1.5 inch space beneath my dresser for several says. He is 6 months old. Dortmund only really comes out for strawberries, and I am convinced that he’s under there listening to The Cure, the Smiths and whatever the heck contemporary emo/screamo is and feeling like nobody understands him. He might also be writing maudlin poetry.

i suspect this is a phase.

What do you mean, by "sad", please describe what gives you that impression.

Sitting hunched up and not doing much? That could be a symptom of pain, not of being sad.
Does he eat and poop properly? Comes running for a treat?

If not, I would see the vet asap, meanwhile giving Simethicone Drops (Baby gas drops), food he likes most (no sugary treats though, safe things like apple leaves, narrowleave plantain..., not too much if he isn't used to any green stuff, just to get him eating) and a gentle belly massage, the most common problem with rabbits are digestion issues, and should be adressed as soon as possible. They hide problems real well, when we notice it's already quite bad, and if it gets worse it can spiral out of hand quickly.

She is doing everything normal she eats her food and poops and press normally but after she does that she just goes back to her blanket and sits normally but if I offer her a treat she goes to it

Spend extra time bonding with your rabbit.
You can pet your rabbit, play with your rabbit, and even eat lunch near your rabbit! The best way to cure rabbit depression is to do as much as possible with it until it is happy again.
Hope that helped.

Yes, that could be the problem. That's a really small cage with nothing to do. Think about it, states across the country are deciding that solitary confinement is cruel and unusual punishment for prisoners. It really messes them up. Your bunny isn't supposed to be your prisoner. She is supposed to be your friend. Even if you "let her out" from time to time, in a cage like that, she is still your prisoner.

If you can, please please take the time to litter or pee pad train your bun and let her just live free range in your house. She is hiding because she doesn't want to go back into that teeny tiny cage. If you don't have the time or the inclination to work with her (and its easier than you may think) to get her to the point of free range, build her a nice, large enclosure. Block her off and give her a room of her own. Hide treats in neat places so she has cause to explore. Don't let her be bored and don't lock her back in that tiny little cage!

Don't worry, I'm not judging you. You didn't know. But now you do, so work to help her out and you can both be happy.

I really wish I could but my house is really small with no more room for a bigger cage or to free roam her what do you think I could do with this cage to Jazz it up for her

I will not remove her I will though give her more toys and some more hay and decorate it for Christmas

No. Rabbits dont need their cages decorated.
They need space to move.
That cage is NOT big enough.

https://rabbit.org/faq-housing/

"What size housing is best?
Bigger is better! A rabbit’s home should be at least 4-6 times the size of your bunny when he’s entirely stretched out–more if he is confined for a large amount of the day. Enclosure sizes also should be decided in conjunction with the amount of exercise time and space the rabbit has. One guideline to go by is at least 8 square feet of enclosure space combined with at least at least 24 square feet of exercise space, for 1-2 rabbits, in which the rabbit(s) can run and play at least 5 hours per day. "

Maybe you can bunny proof or let your bunny out from the cage. If I don’t have a bunny proofed room I often let my bunny live in the bathroom with a setup. Easy to clean up and no wires, it also give my bunnies a bigger space to be on.

or you can put a run around the cage to give her more space, it’s also cheaper that way. Maybe wish that for christmas present. Your bunny looks young and will get bigger. So the cage it’s really tiny and you would never lock a cat in a small cage like that.

Bunnies are they same, they aren’t cage animals and need a lot of space. The best thing you can see is when your bunny do binkys, play around and flops. Which your bunny can’t do in that cage you have .

I hope you manage to find a way to make your bunny happy.

This it’s an okay cage for my own bunny and his size. He’s only in the cage during the night. He have space to binky and play with his toys, a toilet filled with hay and a few chewing toys.

His cage took up a lot of space in my room and I had to throw out a few furniture to make space for the cage. It was the same when I lived in a one room apartment, I made sure my bunny got space and decorated the room after my bunny’s space xD

That’s what you do as a bunny owner ^^
