So I had my baby hedwig spayed today and they’ve put her in a jacket, it’s stressing her out so much and she won’t move. Will something bad happen if I take it off, I am keeping an eye on her so will make sure she doesn’t chew her wounds.

hate seeing her so sad

If you find she is not chewing her wounds, going without the jacket should be OK. I am unsure of any variation of a rabbit spay that would require a jacket being worn for recovery purposes, aside from preventing chewing on the spay incision.

To an extent, hopefully she'd get used to it. It may be helpful to distract with treats or food she is willing to eat, if you decide to keep it on longer.

Thank you for your reply!

she has not been chewing at all. With the jacket she was restless but wouldn’t move from one spot. I ended up taking it off and she’s in and out of sleeping.

she hasn’t eaten yet which I find worrying.

Regaining appetite can take a while! If she hasn't eaten anything in 12 hours (I believe that's the window most individuals are told), then action would definitely need to be taken.

The day of the operation though, many rabbits are really out of it because of the medication, anesthesia, and probably general confusion of what's happening. What's most important is making sure the incision is safe and she isn't showing signs of pain.

As time goes on, she should become more comfortable and gain an appetite. Again, if not, force-feeding and a visit to the vet will be in order.

Okay great I’ll make note of times and everything. She has literally just started eating her treats which makes me very happy.

yeah okay just weird seeing her so out of it she’s usually a hyper bunny. No obvious signs of pain and hasn’t tried getting to it yet.

thank you for your reply

Also call your Vet to give them a update of her condition and to let them know you removed the vest. They may be able to let you know more what to do to help you rabbit recover and what signs to look out for if something does go wrong. I hope your bunny makes a full recovery from their surgery.
