Hi guys
New to this forum, I have an issue that I'm hoping to get some tips for. I have two Netherland dwarf females. The eldest one (Sansa) is 2 years old at the end of December and the youngest (Elle) is 17 months.
Sansa was spayed in Sep 2018 and Elle was spayed in Sep 2019. Elle is really tiny and it was recommended to wait for Elle to be spayed because of her size. Before Elle was spayed in Sep they were are bonded pair with the odd chase here and there when Elle was hormonal and spraying Sansa but Sansa didnt ever seem to react when this happened.
After Elle was spayed she had a bit of a longer recovery as she wasnt eating etc so it took her about 2 weeks to be back to normal compared to Sansa who was fine after 5 days. We introduced them again and there was a bit of chasing but everything went back to normal. A few days later I left the room for 2 minutes and when I came back they were in a full fight with fur everywhere so we seperated them and then a few days later they had another fight and Elle had to get stiches on her leg because of the cut. I felt so awful and worried.
We left it again a few weeks to let Elle heal and started the bonding again but another fight last week left Elle with another cut but thankfully not as bad. The strange thing is Elle seems to be the one going after Sansa. Before Elle was spayed Sansa was the dominant one, shes bigger and older than Elle but now Elle is pushing to be the dominant one. She seems to be more aggressively going after Sansa and Sansa only reacts when she feels threatened.
We've tried to bond them on the kitchen counter always supervised and they get on ok, groming and some cuddling but once they are on the ground whether in a pin or not they fight. Has this happened to anyone else after a spay? Any advice at all? I took me months last year to bond them and I'm so sad I need to keep them seperated and I really feel like Sansa misses Elle.
Any advice or tips would be amazing. I plan to try again from the start this weekend
Thank you!
Donna
