Hi guys. I’ve posted on here a fair amount with issues I’ve had with my rabbit regarding a bout of GI stasis and just other health related issues. I took her to the vet for around the fifth time again and decided to do some xrays. They found a belly mass and lung cancer, which spread to the lungs from the mass.

I am behind devastated as I love her so much and it’s absolutely destroyed me. But I do have a question regarding her quality of life.

She has her ups and downs for sure, she is currently up and about and happy and eating as I am typing this. Sometimes she just sits around and goes lethargic. But do you guys know if meloxicam is something that can be given semi-regularly to buns? It seems to make a big difference with her. What are the side effects of her using it regularly? Is there anything else I can do for pain until her time comes? I want to be careful to not overextend her stay here if she gets miserable, so I’m just not sure what to do. I hate to cut her time short when I don’t need to, but I don’t want her to be absolutely miserable either. Please help?

Yes it can. I had an older bun that got it twice daily for arthritis. She had to have the upper range of dosage at 0.5mg/kg twice a day, as anything lower just didn't help enough. The daily meloxicam really helped control the pain and stiffness for her, and made her remaining time a little bit more comfortable for her. So it's something I definitely would recommend to help improve quality of life where mild to moderate pain control is needed. As long as there are no preexisting kidney problems that it might aggravate, as kidney disease would be the main contraindication.

I'm very sorry for your sad news and hope you are able to help make her remaining time with you more comfortable for her.
