Adopting from pets at home?

Im considering getting a rabbit and was initially planning on getting from a shelter, however i was in the pets at home the other day and met a lovely bunny they had up for adoption through a charity. I wanted to know everyones opinions on adopting from there or being strict about getting from a shelter.

What do you mean by "through a charity"? I'm in the US and not familiar with Pets at Home, however I do know that some pet stores here allow local rabbit rescues to show and sell their adoptable rabbits at the pet store. In this case, the pet store is not purchasing rabbits from a breeder to sell. They are allowing the rescue to make use of the store to advertise and adopt out the rabbits for which the shelter is trying to find homes.

If this is what you are describing/meaning, then that is getting a rabbit from a shelter. The store is just a 'middle-man.'

Honestly, i'm not entitely sure. From what i can tell the money from the pet goes to the charity which is then used to support shelters but where the animals are coming from isnt entirely clear. Whether they're even from a shelter or if they're just pets that got to old to sell.

Ask if the rabbit has been "fostered" and if they can tell you a little about the personality of the rabbit and how well the rabbit did in the foster home. If they can't give you an answer, they should explain to you where the rabbit came from.

I think some of the bunnies at pets at home haven’t sold within a few months so they put them in their ‘adoption’ space and others have been returned and they’re acting like a shelter. If you ask they should be able to tell you the story of the individual rabbit. They seem to always have rabbits to adopt - good luck

My first 2 bunnies (Izzy and Jake) were adopted via pets at home. The one I used to go to (I don’t live in the UK anymore) had a charity set up inside.

As far as I know, it’s an actual charity, so would be the same as adopting from a shelter. My two came with reasons they were brought to the charity in the first place and a personality chart (Izzy was a Easter present for a child, family got bored and didn’t realise how much work rabbits were. Jake was adopted 3 times, going backwards and forwards because he had a history of biting. Before we got him he was given up due to developing snuffles and they didn’t want to pay for vet bills) there was a “suggested adoption fee” and the charity also helped to pay for them both to be fixed (a voucher for steri and a written agreement to get them sterilised at the time of filling in the paperwork)

The charity also found loving homes for dogs and cats too, but was only a few smaller animals that were “shown”
