My family and I found a bump on our rabbit’s lip that seems to be maybe a blister or callous. It is not affecting his eating habits or mood, but it looks pretty bad. I’ve done some research and seen a lot of similar things that could have been rabbit syphilis, but he has had no sexual contact with any other rabbits. Please give any ideas or advice!! I’ve attached a picture below for reference

Rabbit syphilis can be contracted from the mother to the child. My rabbit had syphilis and he had been with me, single, since he was 8wo!

If it is syphilis, you can have a titer (type of blood test) completed to test for syphilis antibodies. Essentially, if there's a large amount, it's determined your rabbit is syphilis positive and you'll receive 21 days of medication for permanent treatment. There is another blood test, but I believe it's known for false positives.

An experienced, rabbit vet assessment is always the best bet for the most informed recommendations though!

For treatment, the blisters/irritated skin can be a bit painful, bleed, and get infected because it's open sores.

Silver sulfadiazine, sometimes called silvadine, is what I used to help moisturize the areas that seemed really irritated. It wasn't initially used for syphilis (we thought it was ringworm initially), but regardless it made the exposed skin look more bearable for my rabbit.

The actual treatment for syphilis will be penicillin shots for just shy of a month typically! Outlined above is more symptom management.
