Help!!! Bad bunny haircut

I have 2 lionhead brothers just now a year old... took them to the vet today to be groomed for the first time. (I’ve groomed before, but I wanted them to check thoroughly for mats and do a good nail trim.) we’ve used this vet for a while and always loved them. But my wife just picked them up and THEY SHAVED THEM.

Apparently something got lost in translation or the tech just got carried away, but there was no medical reason. They look AWFUL. But, more importantly, will they be okay?? Do I need to buy them sweaters so they don’t get cold??

I’ve never seen this before so I have no idea what to do.

I've done this to my lionhead in June he also looked quite funny and probably because summer was so hot he only started growing new fur in the last week of August, then it was really fast and now he is almost like nothing happened. It was my very first experience with an electric clipper and I didn't mean to shave him bald and in fact only shaved his back and then trimmed his sides so he looked like a scottish terrier I left his belly unshaved. So I've learned from this experience the worst thing was that he's harlequin and when his fur started to grow again it was by colours so darker parts grew faster and where it was white he had bald patches. But now he's fine again.

In your situation now is molting time and they should grow new coat faster, I think. But yeah get them some sweaters it's getting colder already and as they normally were well protected they can be very sensitive especially nights so get them a shelter with blankets or something. Hopefully they'll grow some fur sooner than my Fred in summer time.

But I have to say he was very happy because it was really really hot summer and after this haircut he was more active than my other rabbits, I don't think I am going to do it again next summer because of how his hair grew back in patches it wasn't pretty but he was happy he's very fluffy he's lionhead with angora probably

Welcome to RO! They should be fine, just keep an eye out to make sure they don't have razor burn or other skin irritation.

Are they indoor or outdoor rabbits? If indoors, I wouldn't worry at all, they'll be fine in normal house temps that are comfortable for humans. If outdoors, please describe or give pictures of the set-up you have for them so we can give the most appropriate advice. Make sure they're extremely well protected from drafts and provide straw for bedding (it insulates better than hay and can be bought very cheaply at any feed store/livestock supply store).

Thanks for the replies! Update: the boys seem to be fine. They are indoor bunnies. They do not seem nearly as upset as we were, and Mr. Biscuits is a new man. Binkies all over the place. So, though he looks absolutely ridiculous, it's possible he's actually happier this way...

I laughed so hard I cried. Poor bunnies! They look so undignified without their coats. At least they've got solidarity going for them; if I had the same mishap it would be one shaven lionhead and three perfectly normal rabbits staring at her wondering what happened .

They should be fine indoors.

Indoors they'll be fine. Ours have started to shed for their winter coat--looks like heck but a bit of brushing works well. I would talk to the vet as there is a difference between grooming and scalping.

That's very true, Fred was very happy and also very active, was a huge difference as it was really hot and my other rabbits were suffering from heat even I was changing frozen bottles a few times a day they were mostly dead. As I said earlier, he only started growing his fur back in the last week of August probably because it was time for changing coats, it grew really fast but a couple months in summer he looked almost like your bunnies but I didn't shave his belly and legs, only back and trimmed sides.
I am so glad I am not alone now I was feeling pretty bad about his look )
