when I went out to spend time with my bunnies today I found my male rabbit in with one of my females! I don’t even know how they got together but now I’m panicking!! This time of the year is always busy for me and I don’t currently have the time or resources to take care of a new litter of kits. What should I do?? I feel really bad cause I didn’t even know it was possible for them to get together, but clearly they proved me wrong.. they were both originally up for adoption but now I can’t sell the female unless the buyer is experienced and knows what they’re getting into... can anyone help me??? I want to give her the best possible situation to raise her kits in

Many does kindle and raise a litter without much help from us. First time moms can have more issues though. Make sure the buck can’t get to her again. Wait 28 days and put in a nestbox and plenty of hay for her to nest with, and wait. If the rabbits are outside and it turns cold make sure the cage is protected from wind.

It can be quite over whelming without alot of knowledge about raising them alot of does are very good moms like majorv said
if you ever need help you can message me as ive had a few litters and own a rabbitry :)

My female bunny gave birth. She is in my avatar picture, the tan one on right.

I dont know much, but the previous owner will talk to me tomorrow and tell me her experience and what to do. Because that female I adopted was a result of one of her female bunnies giving birth. She is only 4 months old, surprised they can be sexually mature that fast.

And I checked a rabbit to human years chart. My bunny is equivelant to a 12 year old human girl giving birth to babies. And my male is about 2 years old now, and it says he's about 27 human years. I guess my bunny would be in jail if my bunnies were humans in people society.

If my 4 month old bunny is a 12 year old child, is that like the very minimum of sexual maturity because there is a show on Cartoon Network called Twelve Forever. And it does mention things like puberty and becoming sexually mature.

Ah, well, that's the bane of having intact rabbits, guess how I know ;).

How old are your rabbits, sneaked the buck into a harem or is it just one doe? I reckon this wouldn't be your first litter, so you know the basics, that it's not the time of year when someone is happy about it, well, I just go from one day to the next, the inconvinience is more bearable in small doses.

They don't need much to raise litters for the first 8 weeks, more space, privacy at times, more food. A shelf to get away from the kits for at least 4 weeks. I never had problems with first timers, 2 years ago I only found out about a litter because there where suddenly 11 rabbits hopping around in a hutch where only 5 doelings should have been, and my 7yo Fury gave me a surprise litter almost every year, it's amazing what effort they put into getting together.

I would keep them up for adoption, just make clear they could be pregnant. It's not sure they are though, they can be done in seconds, but if the does are not in the mood, and all parties unexperienced there are chances that he didn't hit every mark.

Age comparisions are pretty useless, rabbits evolved to breed as soon and numerous as posssible, they excell at that. And comparing them with current, lokal social codes (other times or regions are different) isn't a good template to apply on still pretty much wild animals. :)

I agree with the posters above---the does do most of the child rearing. If anyone needs to be adopted its those kits that will be grown and start reproducing with each other. You can separate them from the mother after 8 weeks and look for new homes for them in the meantime.

Separate the buck and the female until at least one of them is neutered, so you won't have to go through this again.

I just realized that I really didn’t give many details.
One of My bucks managed to get in with my doe. It was just the two of them so I’m only worried about the one doe. The doe (Artemis) is just over one year now, and the buck is almost two. I’ve raised two litters before this and one of my concerns (as I said before) is I’m usually very busy, and am gone a lot this time of the year. So I’m uncertain if I’ll be home if there’s an issue or if she needs help for some reason. Artemis is actually one of the buns that I raised and I still have her mother as well. Her mother is called esprit and when she had her first litter she had one kit about a week earlier then the rest of her kits and it didn’t make it through the night. Her second litter she had 13 kits and only 6 survived longer then a week. I was concerned for her so I decided I didn’t want any more litters from her cause her second litter didn’t seem normal and I wanted her to be safe.
I want to be there if Artemis has any issues but I’m not sure I’ll be able to.

If you want to spay her vet will be able to remove her uterus with the babies if that would be a solution for you.
