Hi guys So I have to go away for 10 days and I decided to give my single rabbit to this guy I know. He wont be able to be with rabbit the way I am but will give him food check up on him and all that. I am going for 10 days and also my rabbit will be open for the whole day and in his cage just at night to sleep. He wont be in my house but at that guys house which is new for him. I have also taken him to the new house so he gets a bit used to it. Do you think he’ll survive for 10 days? I only fear that he will become depressed as he is very close to me and a single rabbit. Please help!!!

I think that he very happy to you when you get home. Last year I had to go away and have someone come in and feed my rabbits when I went on away for a week. I have 4 rabbits and they all get out every day. The week I was gone, 3 of my rabbits took turns getting out, one rabbit at a day, so they got out once every three days. My 4th rabbit is hard to put back in his cage, so he did not get out at all. I felt bad, but it was a temporary situation and they were all fed with clean litter boxes and were just fine. As long as your rabbit isn't put in a situation where he has to fear for his life, he should make it through the 10 days while you are gone. Be sure you give the person that is taking care of your rabbit the phone number of your vet in case of an emergency.

Also make sure the guys house is bunny proof and there is nothing your bunny can get into or chew while either of you are out. Maybe write down a routine for the guy to follow so your bunny isn’t to upset from the change. It’s good you brought your bunny to the guys house to become more familiar with that new environment.

Yes I have made a list of all the important stuff and what to do if something goes wrong! I will be video calling him every day so my bun can hear me and I can see him! Also I find rabbits are better when they have company, sadly my bun is a single one but still I feel I am enough for him since I give him so much time. Just hope he doesnt miss me too much! Thanks for the reply:)

If you want him to pet sit in the future, video calling every day might be a little excessive. We leave ours and our dogs with a pet sitter (both in home and away at times) and they are fine when we get back, even with the absence. I know it will be difficult for you but you also don't want to run off a good pet sitter that you trust. Maybe check in mid-week instead? 2 cents. Hugs!

Sounds like you have everything set and ready! Well done :). I’m sure your bunny will do well while you’re away. I’ve called my bunny and video chatted with them too! I personally think it’s a good idea so they won’t miss you as much since they hear your voice/see you on screen. Hawkeye is very attached to me as I am to her so each of us needed the call/video chat. ;)

I leave my bunny and guinea pigs with my pet sitter a couple times a year in her home. She doesn't have any other pets or anything that would worry me or harm my pets so I know they are safe with her. I'm not thrilled that my bunny cannot free roam while we are away, but she is kept clean and well fed and I provide her with a large dog crate so she has extra room to move around. They do get used to the sitter after awhile--mine seems comfortable right away now when I drop them off. They stay in the same room every time so they are familiar with the environment. I like that they stay with my sitter so all my pets have company (which they love) and are under constant supervision.

Yes I have given him all the numbers and explained and showed everything to him. Even made my rabbit stay the night yesterday and he was just fine :) thanks for the response :)

Aww that’s so cute! And yes it really does help them when they hear your voice. It reminds them youre still alive haha and didnt abandon them lol. I even got a camera fixed in that room so now I can see him 24/7 from wherever I am. That makes me feel so much at peace :)

Yeah I think they definitely do adjust in a few days. Its just the first two or three that are the hardest. Even I thought of getting my rabbit a bigger cage but since he’ll be free roaming the whole day I guess its fine if he goes jn to sleep at night! Thanks for the response! :)

Woot that is great! I have a webcam as well, I love seeing my pets all the time, particularly when we travel. I really didn't mean for my post to sound so blunt, I was just concerned that the pet sitter would feel bothered and I know how difficult it can be to find a pet sitter that will do all animals not just cats and dogs. Hugs!
