So some time back my rabbit started letting out pee while he was sleeping. Only while he was sleeping. And the pee had also become redish orange kinda cloudy. When I took him to the vet he said he had an urinary infection and told me to give him ciprofloxacin (antibiotic) for 5 days. So he stopped peeing while sleeping but now I think around a month has gone by and its back again. He is now again peeing in his sleep and reddish. This time the vet said give it to him for 10 days and get an xray. Has anyone seen this with their rabbit? And is it ok to give this medicine for 10 days? Please help!!

I’m sure if the medicine wasn’t safe for your rabbit the Vet wouldn’t prescribe it. Maybe the 5 days of medicine wasn’t strong enough to kill the infection. Hopefully your bunny feels better soon! Continue to monitor their urine to see if the color has improved any.

I would follow your vet's advice. Cipro is safe for rabbits and a go-to drug for UTIs.

I don't know about your country, but in the US you can get probiotics marketed for small animals (at some pet stores, online or in some feed stores/livestock supply stores) - the most prevalent brands here are BeneBac and Probios. It's never a bad idea (for animals or humans) to give a probiotic when giving an antibiotic to prevent the antibiotic from killing off too much of the 'good' bacteria in the digestive system. Just make sure to give the probiotic at least 2-3 hours either before or after the antibiotic so they don't cancel each other out. The probiotics can prevent potential side-effects from the antibiotics.
