I have a 7 or 8 yr old neutered male LionHead. He has always been the perfect bunny. Pee's in his box, eats well, never chews. Mid June, he began peeing outside his box. It was an reddish orange pee. He saw 2 so called exotic vets 2 weeks apart, both of which incorrectly diagnosed him with a UTI (mistook the red for blood). I finally found a true bunny doc & she determined his issue was dental hooks. Teeth were floated but the peeing problem remained. Since June, he's been on SMZ, Metacam, Meloxidyl, Metronidazole, Baytril & now Panacur. All blood work & xrays are perfect so the vet is eliminating ecuniculi. The only unknown is his thyroid.
He seems fine, maybe a little more sleepy than before. He eats well but still asks for CC occasionally. I noticed he has an issue with the ramp leading to his 2nd floor living quarters so I removed it & he now lives on the lower level of his L shaped homemade condo. Yes, he is a pampered bunny!
I am at a loss as to what his problem could be. On a FB page, someone mentioned stroke but he has no weaknesses however, he does lean as he's falling asleep or resting & at times, has rotated in a circle. He also no longer zips around. He lops along normally but he doesn't run after us (when we leave his room) like he used to. A few times, he would run into our legs as we were walking & he tumbled around on the carpet until he found his feet. So, a spinal issue, perhaps, but he leaps the 14" of hardwood between carpets! We have no other pets but a dog that visits infrequently & when he does, Foof goes into his cage with a treat.
I'm hoping a member has experienced something similar & can shed some light. Sorry if this is rambling but I wanted to include as much as possible. Thank you, members!
