Hello!

So I work night shifts and I just woke up to find that my bunny has not drank any water for the last 8 hours since i topped up his water before going to bed and he has a bunch of really small poops in his cage now too, he is still eating all his pellets, fresh veg and hay the same, I just gave him a grape - i was told if you are worried about them hiding not eating you should try their faourite treat but he took it and ate it straight away, he seems himself coming over to us and wanting cuddles and kisses he just isnt drinking at all - i know because i accidentally filled his bowl all the way to the top and it hasnt budged at all.

Any advice?

If he is getting a lot of fresh veg, that can affect their water consumption as he will be getting it directly from the veg.

If his fresh veg amount is the same and not that significant for fluid consumption, I would wash the bowl and refill it, then monitor if he still isn't drinking. If he isn't, maybe there's something off with the water. Maybe buy some bottled water and try that. But I wouldn't wait too long because if he isn't getting enough fluids then eventually he will stop eating as well and could develop GI stasis. So I would maybe feed more fresh veg until the water issue is sorted out.

Hi!
He gets the same amount of veg every day so this is very out of character for him, ill try some filtered water with him now thank you :)

So his water bowl has still not gone down and im starting to get really worried about him now, he is still eating his hay, veggies and pellets as usual and is still running around and being his adorable self and doesnt seem like he is sick (i know rabbbits are very good hiders at being sick) but last time after his surgery he was very needy and wanted to be with us and have attention all the time for a few days after. I've read that it can be a dental problem and the rabbit wont want to use his tongue but he just stole a bit of my juice so now im even more confused?! he has vitamin drops in his water and has since we got him 4 years ago now and nothing else has changed for him the water seems fine but i have changed it to filtered water instead, going to ring the vets tomorrow but wondering if anyone knows what this could be?

You can mix little pineapple juice with the water, to make it more yummy. This you should only do once, it will become really sweet.

Most of my bunnies will go crazy over the water with little pineapple in it. Give it as treat sometimes during a hot summer day.

Also wet veggies will help and make sure he get water in to the system ^^

Would apple juice be okay? I don't have any pineapple juice in ☹️
I have been wetting his veg

Gatorade, they like the ice blue flavor the best give some in a bowl by the next day it will be gone I’ve done it before and it works great.

Don't have anywhere around me that sells gatorade only get it in American shops here in UK ☹️

Have you tried it without the vitamin drops? There may be something off with them and they are affecting the taste of the water, so I would try just plain water first if you haven't already. If that doesn't work, a touch of apple juice mixed with the water should be fine. You just don't want it to be too sweet. You will also have to change it out regularly so it's fresh.

If none of that works, your vet checking for possible dental problems isn't a bad idea.

He currently has two water bowls in there at the minute one with just plain water and one with water and Apple juice in, I'm at work at the moment so I'm hoping he has drank something last night or he's going vets today!

Being a bit of a paranoid parent at the mo as my hamster just passed so sorry about all the questions but I've just got home and there's poop all connected with fur - quite a thick strand of fur - unsure if it's a good thing or a bad thing he still doesn't seem to be drinking anything his water doesn't seem to have gone down since last night ☹️

That’s can be bad, it means he can get hair balls in the stomach. In the moment he get a lot of hair in the stomach. Make sure he drinks water and groom him a lot. Most important is that he eat hay ^^

I often give my bunnies fresh pineapple when I see those droppings. Because I’ve heard it helps, but I’m not so sure about it. At least I only see it once then no more.

Worth a try, but keep up with the grooming of your bunny [emoji5]

As soon as I saw them I gave him some dried papaya I heard papaya and pineapple was good for those poops.

I brush him every other day for as long as he will let me before he gets bored and I always managed to get a whole heap off him.

Just got back from the vets they did a full check up he's absolutely fine, not lost any weight he isn't dehydrated, his teeth are perfect his stomach sounds and feels good, and his gums are all wet so he's obviously hydrated the vet was just as confused as I am but said to just keep an eye on him and if anything else changes then to bring him back in so hopefully he is okay
