My doe had babies and she cannot nurse them because that caused her to get ill, which means I have been syringe feeding them formula. I use KMR milk with heavy cream for them, but for two of the babies they make a mess and the milk/formula gets all over their fur. I try to rinse it off but they start to shake when I put a wet cloth on them, probably because it’s making them cold or they don’t understand what is happening. So I would leave them alone, but on July 3rd I’ve noticed their fur is falling off on the places they had he milk. One of the babies neck is completely furless and is starting to lose more fur. Since I saw this and it looks like it’s from the milk/formula drying up on them, I stopped syringe feeding them and now the babies are eating pellets & hay and drinking water on their own.

This may sound silly, but should I be concerned about the hair loss on them and will it grow back? My vet’s office has been closed due to the holiday so I haven’t been able to get in contact with them about this.

The fur will grow back, so you have nothing to worry about.

When I force feed one of my bunnies critical care he will get all messy around the mouth. I often take little water on my fingers and work with the fur and just dry it with dry towel.

So the only thing that get wet will be the fur I touch. Easier to control then a wet towel.

Thank you for the tip! Do you know of anything I could use on the baby bunny’s skin to avoid infections or skin irritation, or just leave it as is and let it grow back?
