Hi. I am in the UK where rvhd 1 and 2 are a real worry. My vets posted recently on Facebook that there had been rvhd cases in our local area. There still seems a lot of confusion among owners about which vaccinations are needed to protect our rabbits from these horrible diseases.

Does anyone think it would be helpful for this forum to have a pinned thread about vaccinations? There are already pinned threads on rabbit safe foods, for instance. I know many members are in the U.S where this isn't an issue. However, we all know how heart breaking it is to lose a bun. It's just a suggestion to maybe clarify the advice and spread the word about vaccinating rabbits in affected countries. Who knows, it might save the life of a bun or two.

Yeah that’s not a bad idea, though the advice does vary depending on where you are. for example, the increasing number of RHD2 strain here in the UK.
Basically for anyone in UK I would say you need the myxo-RHD1 vaccine and then the additional RHD2 vaccine two weeks later.

Hi Popsicles. Yes that is my understanding too. There does seem some variation in how often vets recommend to have the vaccinations. My vet says every nine months rather than a year.

My concern is that people acquire rabbits in all sorts of ways, often on impulse, without prior experience. I have the impression there's not much general awareness about vaccines. If a new owner is browsing the forum they are more likely to notice a pinned thread. It's so important to get the information out there and raise awareness.

It does depend on which brand of vaccine they are using, and also the prevalence in your area. There really is no “one rule fits all” approach to vaccinations, is just just a discussion to have with your vet at the time.
Absolutely agree, more could be done to make it more visible!
