Hello,

I love my six-year-old mini-lop more than I've ever loved any pet I've ever had (and I've really loved all my pets!). A few months ago, he started going blind due to cataracts. We took him to the vet, who talked us out of the possibility of cataract removal surgery and said "this is commonplace." Now, he has gone fully blind, and he is a shell of the rabbit that he used to be. He still kisses us and happily clicks his teeth when we're petting him, . . . but he doesn't come out of his cage unless we pull him out of it, and when we put him in our living room to "run around" he goes straight to his blanket and lays down. My question is this . . . does anyone know of any kind of toys that might help him feel a bit of excitement again? I don't want to introduce too much novelty or challenge him too much, but I want him to be happier.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Emily

Best thing is to be consistent with everything for him as any changes can be extremely stressful on him. Some things u can try that most bunnies really enjoy are the cardboard tubes from toilet paper rolls or paper towels and well are cheap in case he is not interested. Does he bump into things when he comes out? Is he able to find his food and all ok? I’m not sure if would work to help him feel more secure but look into a product called MUFFINS HALOS, she has a page on Facebook and I think has a website. Maybe something like that would make him feel more like his old self. Also as a vet tech I agree w ur vet that surgery is not a great option. Bunnies tend to not do well with anesthesia and that danger of losing him would be very high then adding a rough procedure on top just would be scary. Just make him as comfortable as possible and don’t make many changes since it can be confusing for him.
