Hi all, I have a half dwarf bunny and he is 12 months old. He is not as friendly as the previous male rabbits that I have had and I was wondering if getting him neutered would make any difference. He doesn't mind a pat but he doesn't like being held, unlike the other rabbits I've had. Can anyone give me some advice?

Rabbits are ground dwellers, meaning most prefer to live their lives on the ground instead of snuggled up high in our arms. If he doesn't like to be picked up, just means he more sensitive to it. You'll just need to spend more time on the ground with him. At 12 months, he needs to be neutered for sure. And if he's half dwarf, they can be a bit feisty. Make sure you take him to an 'exotic' Vet that specializes in rabbit surgery. Not all Vets treat rabbits and you want bunny to be safe while under anesthesia. After surgery, let him rest and recover quietly for (2) full weeks.

Well, neutering pet rabbits is a good idea. My house bunny is intact, which was not any problem as long as he was alone. I took him in when he was 2, when younger he did spray a lot. Last year I got him a girl spayed as cuddlebun, now he's spraying again, there's something to mop up (quite a lot, 4.5kg bunny) every other day, was worse in spring.

Even if you don't plan to get a second rabbit it's said that neutering does make them calmer, more affectionate, can't tell from own experience, but my buck is more a room mate than a pet, which is perfectly fine for me.

My bunny is 6 years old and still has his male parts intact. He is uses his litter box, he doesn't spray, doesn't hump and isn't aggressive.

I had another a male bunny before this one who definitely need to be fixed. He would jump in the air and spray me.
