So today I came home from work, and my little Yeti (he’s three months) was not in his cage. I seen his poops around and knew he must of got out of his playpen. I have three bunny’s, they actually have their own room, but while I’m away at work cause they rip carpets they are enclosed in their play pens. My other two are bonded and yeti is in his own. I found him under my bed with his nose tissue hanging off. I immediately panicked and called my vet where I take all my bunnies. My cat had bit/scratched him.
My cat is feisty, especially with unknown humans. But I’ve had my first bun for almost two years, and she doesn’t mess with them. She normally turns the other way if they come by. She had swatted at yeti before with no claws out, because he wanted to cuddle and she wasn’t having it, but honestly never seen any red flags other than that. She’s an indoor cat as well. The vet was able to put his nose back together and he’s on antibiotics. My cat sensed my fury she hid from me. Now I’m always shutting the door to their room and I made sure he couldn’t slip or jump out. Pictures attached of his cage, and his wound. I moved his house so he can’t use it as a step up, and made sure there was no crevice for him to slip through. Be wary of cats and bunnies... even if you have a friendly cat.

Yes, that is definitely a danger with cats. I'm sure your vet told you this, but keep a close eye out for signs of infection(even though he's on antibiotics). Cat scratches can transfer all sorts of bacteria and there have been cases of it proving fatal to rabbits. So it's a very serious concern and one to closely watch out for.

I'm glad your little bun is ok.

Very aware of dangers of the bacteria they carry. Vet said keep eye out for white discharge. Already gave him the first dose of antibiotics today, giving him another later. I’m shocked he’s acting like nothing happened. Literally running around on my bed being a goof like always. Very grateful it wasn’t worse.

You're definitely right to warn people about this topic. I am so sorry the little guy got hurt despite taking precautions to keep him separate from the cats! I really hope he's ok and doesn't get an infection. I've often linked this thread to people asking if cats and rabbits can get along. As you know, the bacteria is nasty and can potentially be fatal even with excellent vet treatment so it's definitely best to not allow unsupervised interaction... but unfortunately sometimes someone escapes despite your best intentions to keep them apart :(.

We have four each of cats and rabbits and I'm very thankful the cats have no interest in or animosity towards the bunnies! Well, other than Donnie, who will get on our bed and lick/groom whichever rabbit you happen to be snuggling with, lol. We still keep them 99% separated and would never, ever intentionally allow them to interact unsupervised. A couple times, though, Alice has gotten loose and been exposed to the cats... but she really tears around the house if she gets loose and for some reason, the cats are terrified of this.
