Hello guys, i just wanted to ask for advice. I live in the woods, so every summer, ants come in. Im afraid if they will do any harm to teddy. For now i see about 2 or 3 of them a day. They crawl everywhere, the kitchen table the counter, the walls, and soon Teddy's habitat and litter box(Will I have to clean his litter every 2 days?). But soon itll be more, and the thing is, i dont know where they are coming from. So did you guys ever had ants in your house while you had a rabbit. Please just give me advice I really want to know what to do. Do you guys know anything that could keep ants away while still being safe for rabbits. Certain things are not good for rabbits to inhale so I just wanted to know bye.

Sprinkle food-grade diatomaceous earth around where they are coming in and along your walls. If he eats it, it will be ok because it is a natural dewormer.

This is a good idea but be careful with diatomaceous earth!! It’s very harmful if inhaled (it does to your lungs what it does to the bugs — rubs/scratches the mucous membranes dry) so while it’s great at getting rid of pests naturally, be careful with how you use it and with inhaling it :)

Food-grade diatomaceous earth is actually safe for bunnies. There is the pool-cleaning kind, which is highly dangerous. I use it all the time in my rabbity for outbreaks of fleas, mange, mites, etc. Never had any problem with it, and put it right on the bunnies. Even use it on my hens for poultry lice.

I'm not sure about your ant problem, but have you tried those little poison things where the bugs/ants crawl into it, eat the poison then leave? I'm not sure what they're called, lol, but can be found at your local hardware store. I have them on the porch, and my buns can't get into them, nor have they ever bothered them. They are plastic though, so your bun can get ahold of it and chew it, so put it in a place your bun can't get to, or put them up when he's running around. Diatomaceous earth is also a good idea.

Thank you. I might try the D.E (diatamacious earth) method first. Thanks again!

i'd try getting those ant traps with bait inside and just put them in areas out of reach from your bunny
also when feeding your bun veggies i'd only leave them in there for a short period of time
when i get ants i usually give my bun about 20 minutes to eat them i just give the leftovers to him later that day when he's hungry again.

You can also do a 50/50 mix of water and distilled white vinegar it will kill them directly, it will mask the sent they leave for their trail, safe for you and the bunnies...

Hi, I have the same problem with the ants and then I heard that they hate the smell of fresh bay leaves. But there was no bay leaves plants near me, so I brought dry bay leaves and grind it into powder. I placed it at the entry of where they came from. Now there is no more ants. :)

I put ant poison around the outside walls when I start noticing them inside.

When they're inside, I quaranteen off the area and put safer inside bait traps out. Once the ants are gone (2-3 weeks), I thoroughly clean and open it back up to the rabbits.

I have a small cabin in the woods, and last summer, my friend asked me to stay there. He took his new girlfriend there, so I can only guess what they were doing there. But somehow, after their visit, I have ants everywhere, and they are literally destroying everything! Maybe they left food there, or what could go wrong?
This is an old post that has to do with ants in regards to pet rabbits. Your post is unrelated to rabbits so should be copy/pasted to the "Let Your Hare Down" forum.
